RONAN <3.
when i first read this book it was kinda hard for me get into it. but towards the end i really loved it. i fucking love RONAN.

“The moonlight loved her. But not as much as my shadows."
“I can’t imagine a world where you and all your fucking yellow doesn’t exist. So if you die, you’ll take me with you.”
“Ya lyublyu tebya. Tak sil’no chto ne mogu dumat’ kogda ty daleko ot menya.” I love you. So much I can’t think when you’re away from me.”
“Then let me make it clear for you,” he said, the shadows in his eyes flashing. “You would survive without me. You would move on.” His tone roughened. “I can’t imagine a world where you and all your fucking yellow doesn’t exist. So if you die, you’ll take me with you. Your sacrifice would mean nothing, kotyonok. NOTHING.”
“I knew then I’d follow this man to the fiery gates of hell if he just held my hand.”
“Because you’re so sweet you fucking glow.” His eyes darkened. “And I’ll kill anyone who tries to take that light from you.”
"Ronan tipped my chin to meet his eyes, brushing away the tear with a thumb. “Lions don’t lose sleep over the opinions of sheep.”

before reading this, i’ve always wondered why people never talked about this book— or why people despise this book; and i may have the answer.

danielle lori romanticized kidnapping, emotional abuse, and sexual assault in this book. in about 80% of the book, i was frustrated with ronan. he’s not my fav, and i don’t think he’ll ever be. do not get me wrong, i love what he did in the last chapters. he truly redeemed himself, but those actions cannot cover up his previous behavior. did he have a good character development ? absolutely. but do i still hate him ? very much, yes.

mila is one of the strongest female characters i have ever read. from her family problems, stockholm syndrome, and so much more. i adore her so much, she truly deserves the world. she and kat carried this book.

overall, this is just a disappointing read. i don’t know why people romanticize this book.

For me, even this grade is too much. I am only giving this book a two for certain moments where I got Christian and Gianna and certain moments where I liked Mila. I couldn’t bring myself to like Ronan at any point in this book. Even at the beginning, he was so suspicious - I just knew something was off. Ugh, just thinking of reading this book gives me the shivers. Unwanted ones. I legit don't understand what there is to like about the main ship, I don't get it, maybe I am blind in that aspect of not seeing the oh so adoring love between Ronan and Mila but... I just can't. I liked certain characters mentioned in the book, as I said mentions of Christian and Gianna as well as "Igor". I really liked their "friendship" if you can call it that? I wanted more of them together. That’s it really.

i initially read this for the christiangianna breadcrumbs and i got SO MANY breadcrumbs! there were a couple moments where i wasn’t sure i was gonna like milaronan but they grew on me (a little). mila has never done a single thing wrong in her life and i love her for that. the only reason this isn't getting five stars is bc of the ending. abrupt much? watch the trigger warnings for this one, ladies and lads.

Warning: your standards will be completely fucked after reading this book.

It’s been three days since I’ve read it and I still can’t get over Ronan. I literally think about him every hour of the day. And Mila? I’m torn between wanting to be her best friend and wanting her to just not exist.

The first 100 pages of this book was gold. I am obsessed with gentlemanly, mysterious Russians with deep pockets. So when Ronan first comes into the picture acting like a good samaritan, I’m all over it.

And then, we get to the plot twist. I won’t reveal too much but things got intense. Like, INTENSE intense. I almost stopped reading. My faith in Danielle Lori was dwindling at the very actions of Ronan who I thought I loved so much. But, despite my moral code, I kept on reading.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen and enbies, I fell in love with a fictional man who kidnapped a woman. My idea of romance is fucked up…send help. It’s safe to say that you’ll want to research possible content and trigger warnings for this book.

If you’re like me, you’ll be obsessed with everything about this book soon enough. I don’t know why my faith in Danielle Lori (my literary goddess) was cracking, considering she’s never failed me before. I mean, let’s be honest…Nico from The Sweetest Oblivion and Christian from The Maddest Obsession are perfect in every way. And Ronan…well let’s just say he could “choke me like he hates me but he loves me.”
