I enjoyed this book. Interesting fresh world building, but not too much focus on it so it was still fast-paced. Lots of popular fun tropes packed into a not-too-long not-too-short standalone package.

First of all, STUNNING cover. As for the book contents itself, I absolutely loved Queenie and was so excited to see a Caribbean mermaid! However, I feel like the shape shifting/mermaid aspect of the book took a backseat to the sex scenes. I wish we’d have been able to spend more time on either the whole mermaid thing or at least relationship development with the male MC’s. Although very spicy, I felt like she only really had a genuine connection with Slug and uhh I forgot his name but second in command. The other 3 I felt like we’re just there.

This book is my newest obsession. I can't get over how much I loved this book. It is a spicy fantasy why choose romance. The FMC is very strong and powerful and isn't looking for anyone to save her. The Kraken motorcycle club is determined to help her anyway. The story and pacing were amazing. The spice was some of the best I have ever read. I want to be Queenie more that any other FMC I have read about.

I really enjoyed the world & the crazy story but there are some wonky phrases that don’t work where they’re used or they don’t mean what the author thinks they do.

I would purposely join the Krakens MC just to have Queenie be my old lady. Thank you very much for reading.

This is my second read in a row that was an amazing concept but I took issue with some of the execution.

First of all, the cover is stunning. It feels like - in general - paranormal/monster romances (even reverse harem romances) skew to white heroines, so reading about a Black heroine who's a mermaid in the Caribbean was very cool. I also feel like I haven't read a reverse harem romance in a while, so I was stoked for that because I went through many periods where that was my jam. And motorcycle club romances always hit the spot (provided there's no cheating) because I have a thing for Sons of Anarchy.

The plot seemed simple enough (all info in this paragraph can be found in the description): the heroine Naomi doesn't want to be involved with criminals, but after witnessing a merman MC club murder someone, suddenly she's swept into their world under the protection of their rival club. Cue she's under their protection... but she doesn't want to be.

I like this kind of straightforward plot because I assumed it would lend a lot of time to developing character relationships. Kind of like A Lady of Rooksgrave Manor, which has a very minimal plot... I didn't care and LOVED the book because I loved the relationship building. Unfortunately I didn't feel we got a lot of development of the heroes or their relationship with Naomi.

There are five guys in the harem technically, but one I'm not sure if we should even count because on page he interacts with Queenie five times. And in only one of those instances do they have a full conversation. I think the fact that he was included and got his own POV was a hinderance to the overall book because we really didn't know him.

Even the other guys who got more page-time I don't feel we knew well.

There were questionable choices with some of the writing. At times - especially in the beginning - it felt very stereotypical "badass fantasy heroine who's tougher than she looks". Being super quippy with the guys after waking up at their compound, kicking a guy in the balls... there were definitely some cringe worthy moments. Another thing that made me pause was when one guy was info-dumping his trauma to her... while she fucked another guy. Like - what?!

Also as a side note, it said this book included MM content but it was very sparse.

I liked the world it was set in, the idea of mermen being MC clubs, the "spelling" of bikes to run on water. I wish we had seen more of their time as mermen/women because I think Naomi only shifted once, at the very beginning of the book, so it was underutilized, to me.

Overall, this book was entertaining and no regrets picking it up on a Sunday night for a late night binge read.

Queenie and the Krakens

Great book! Interesting take on MC Clubs in the Caribbean that are shifters, Witches, ect. Naomi was definitely a bad@$& fmc. The guys of the MC were hot. It's a great standalone but I would love an epilogue with this crew. Especially with Queenie and Delfin. Or even a spinoff with her bestie Lourdes and the guy she bumped into on the street who I'm sure is the club owner. Maybe there is one but I haven't looked. The is my first read for this author.

DID NOT FINISH: 44%

Idk when a guy called SLUG was explaining to her how his abusive mother’s boyfriend killed his sister while she was getting her 🐱 ate by a dude called BOX I was like I don’t think this is for me

Out of this world!

Oh my god. I am SO upset that I am JUST now finding Aleera! Where have I been?! This is the second book of hers I’ve read and omfg I can’t get enough! Queenie and the Krakens was nothing like I expected but everything I wanted! Even though this is a paranormal/fantasy dark romance, it screams real life/she’s just like me. Queenie is exactly that, a QUEEN! She is fierce af, badass, hot as hell and a little crazy, just how we like our fmcs. The Krakens, wow! I didn’t expect to like them or hell to even root for them, but Aleera wrote them in such a way that you can’t help BUT fall in love with each a little. Even Box’s slightly psycho ass
adventurous emotional tense medium-paced
