I never thought I'd say this, but the movie is way better than the book. The idea was nice though. Also, this book is inappropriate for teens. The characters are obsessed with talking about sex. And there is some language too.

found my new guilty pleasure. i loooove meg cabot. always have. i'm definitely too old for this book, as the narrator is 14 and i'm 24, but it was a very fun and quick read. i love the journal entry structure. only downside is the woe-is-me, why-me, end-of-the-world outlook she has on everything, but i guess it's fitting for someone that age.
[b:The Princess Diaries|10345824|The Princess Diaries (The Princess Diaries, #1)|Meg Cabot|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1296548698l/10345824._SY75_.jpg|2073907] was such a fun read to help get me out of a reading slump.
Honestly i was feeling so depressed last week and i decided to finally have a go at these books since my sister had previously told me not to bother because they were different from the movies and that her grandmother sucks. Yes, her grandmother does quite frankly kind of suck but boy was this fun to read. I quite enjoyed it and sure it's not high literature or anything but i enjoyed it and that’s all that matters to me. In The Princess Diaries we follow Mia Thermopolis as she finds out she the Princess of Genovia and next in line to the throne after her father gets testicular cancer and can’t produce any more heirs. Mia then has to deal with her frightening French speaking Grandmere, her father Prince of Genovia and her art hippy Mother who are all trying to help her in her new role of being a Princess. She gets roped into attending Princess Lessons with her Grandmother on top of getting a personal bodyguard when her royal status is outed to the press. Courtesy of her Grandmother as she ‘needs to learn how to deal with the press’ like god just let the pre-teen get through high school first.
Along with all of this Mia already feels like there is so much she already has to worry about. From failing algebra to not having a boyfriend, desperately wanting breasts and her best friend not talking to her. As well as dealing with her mums’ new boyfriend who just happens to be her algebra teacher. We follow Mia as she writes down journal entries in her diary along with the occasional maths equations and lists for homework.
Anyways this book was so much fun to read and yes for all of you asking it's definitely quite different from the cult classic movie, which just so happens to be one of my all-time favourite movies. But the books got spunk and its one of those books that is so easy to just read and not have to think too hard about. All in all, I'm extremely glad I picked this up as I plan to continue reading the series since my sister has the next two books which are at my disposal.
I'm going to attempt to do some homework now since my trail exams are a week away and I have not studied. At all. I'm so done with school at the moment and what’s a girl supposed to do when she’s trying to improve her mental wellbeing and change her negative thought patterns you know??

Eu comecei a ler sem nenhuma expectativa, comprei por pura nostalgia da infância. E me surpreendi muito.
This book is a not quite 4 stars but better than 3 stars for me. I had a hard time not thinking about the movie the whole time I read this. But I am kicking myself for never reading before the movie came out. Amelia cracked me up several times and I could 100% hear my own teenage thoughts in hers. The character of Lilly drove me nuts in both the movie and the book. And I wish we would have gotten to know Lars a bit more (like Joe in the movies) but very cute easy read.
