I never say the movie is better than the book, but....

Mia is annoying and whiny. Her Grandma (portrayed by sweet queen Julie Andrews in the movies) is mean, bossy, and sort of awful. Lily is a lot, both in move and book. Her dad is a complete push-over towards his mom, but a dick to Helen.

There were some very obvious dates references in this, and they were something that wouldn't fly today. I especially disliked the inclusion of a bombing being used as a cover for her news story.

Overall I didn't love it. I didn't hate it either, I just feel pretty meh. (I will probably read at least the next one)

Okay. I only read this book because I needed a break from the harder-to-read things. It was a very fast read; it took me only a day or so to read, but it definitely isn't my favorite type of book. It was funny and interesting, but the teen romance definitely isn't my thing. I think I'm going to go back to reading fantasy and classics.

I almost gave it two stars, but since the book never left me bored (something that is hard to do for me), I decided to be nice.

Maybe someday when I need some cheering up, I'll watch the movie or something. But only when I'm desperate.
