Congo

Another good Crichton. As I am making my way through his older novels, I am amazed at his imagination. It is hard to believe the complexity of the stories that he creates. Congo was about an expedition into the Congo (where else?) to find diamonds and to look for a lost city. It was a pretty gripping read. The technology was dated but it was interesting to see the direction that Crichton predicted technology would go, and be able to look where it is 40 years later.

Intense, just as a thriller should be.

Love Michael Crichton's writing! This was a great adventure that was tense and gripping. Loved the focus on language, which the movie lacks.

This was fun and kept my attention. However, I did find myself skimming over the super long paragraphs explaining technology-related things because the jargon was pretentious and unnecessary.

It was cymbal monkeys.

Really enjoyed this book. Jam packed with interesting facts and action, Micheal Crichton is a genius.

It's okay. I liked Andromeda Strain and Jurassic Park better. But maybe good summer reading?

This wasn't as gripping as the previous books, but all in all a good thrilling read for anyone interested in primate research.

I think Congo could have been a really good book if it were not so bogged down in technical jargon. I almost gave up less than halfway through because I just could not manage to get into it. It did get better once I got further into the book, but even as late as 20 pages from the end I was getting yanked out of the story to slog through a bunch of technical jargon that I didn’t understand so wasn’t useful to the story to me and then had to struggle to get back into it. It really kinda ruined the ending of the book for me and just generally made me really frustrated with it. The overall plot was good, there was a good amount of suspense, tension, action, and mystery to make it mostly entertaining, but it was so challenging to get really immersed in.

Decent technological detail
Decent plot
Decent pacing
Decent character development
Decent action
Decent shocks
Underwhelming and Disney-esque conclusion

Decent techno-thriller.
