Un excellent livre, sans doute un des meilleurs de la série. Le ratio intrigue/action est bien balancé et le fait de revoir certains personnages des anciens livres est très intéressants. La bataille pour la protection de Castelmithral est tout simplement épic!!

Part of the reason it took me forever to read this book is that I have been incredibly busy. Also, this one has definitely been my least favorite of all the Forgotten Realms books I've read so far. I just felt like there were all these threads that could've been really interesting but they didn't really go anywhere.
The Time of Trouble is an example of this. When that plot point started I was like "Well this is weird and random," but then as the story progressed I got into it and was like "This has some really interesting potential for story. I wonder if he'll stretch it out." Then about that time it was just over. My husband explained that it was something to tie in with D&D campaign stuff at the time, but as a person reading it now, it was kind of weird. I also wasn't the biggest fan of how Drizzt and Cattie-brie spent 50% of the book pining over each other, only to decide they are going to be friends.
I also felt there were a few too many Deus Ex Machinae. There were a few shining moments however, Bidderdoo and the Gutbusters being one, and Harkle Harpell dealing with the Illithids being another. I feel like I would like to read a book about either of those groups.

These books, along with some of the others I'm sure, are why people think that dungeons and Dragons is only for kids. The story line is semi-serious and the events are pretty interesting, but some of the characters are ridiculous. The dwarves and their accents take the reader out of the story because they are so over the top and goofy, and the Svirfneblin are a race that I've never been able to take seriously and always thought were a horrible addition to Forgotten Realms.

That being said, the story is good and exciting. There is quite a bit of action in this one, and the best part is you have much more of the machinations of the Drow, which is, frankly, the best part of this series.

With the way this one ended I'm curious to see how the next one is plotted. This was the 3rd in The Legacy of the Drow series that Salvatore wrote.

The writing also has been improving over the series as a whole. The reader can tell that Salvatore is maturing as an author, and his characters are getting a bit more three dimensional and the plotting more believable. Lets see how the next one goes to see if I continue on with the series.

There's nothing here to make this one stand out from the others, but it fits the bill if you're looking to spend time in the world and with the characters.

Slightly more battle focused than the other books, but don't blink or you'll miss some nuggets of wisdom.

Drizzt can really get annoying. This book starts to show that. Take a break inbetween books for a little while. It may just help you not notice him going into SUPER EMO mode.
