I was a little unsure about going into this book but I do love Greek Mythology so I thought what the heck? I’ll read it. At first I was enjoying it but toward the climax it just got confusing for me

This book fell trap to the usual issues with mythology themes books, being inaccurate and pacing. I feel I can excuse the inaccuratcies because it helps combat predictablility, but the pacing was rough. While reading, I lost track of what was going on quite often because details felt hurriedly thrown in. There was an attempt at slight connections back to details in the beginning, but those details were so small to begin with that the connections didn't hold substance. They felt like after-thoughts.

That being said, I'd like to keep reading the series. I liked the character design of these gods and goddesses.

I'm not a fan of the main character because it felt like she didn't really learn much and her actions had major consequences, some fatal. I also think the "romance" was forced but ultimately went nowhere. Some of the side characters were great though, and some of the action sequences were cool.

Percy Jackson vibes, but the events at times felt anticlimactic. Still enjoyed it.

Claire Andrews doesn't stay true to the myths but, as she acknowledged in her author's note: "But that is the beauty of myths, stories that are ever changing--we can take from them what is most relevant to us personally, and revel in the fantasy. Students and scholars of ancient Greece will likely do much hand-wringing, some sighing, and possibly a bit of eye-rolling as they follow Daphne's journey. For that, though, I offer no apology except to say that history is often said to be written by the victors, usually men, and Daphne has won this particular battle."

Hear, hear!

Also, this book was just plain fun! It started off a bit slow, but then it picked up and I didn't want to put it down.

It did take me a little while to get into this book, but once I did it was worth it! It was an amazing retelling with a unique storyline. And Daphne and all her friends are amazing!!! The characters are diverse, and you really learn to have an empathy for all of them.
