honestly it was fun during some parts! other sections i was frankly exhausted. i’m not sure how i feel overall. i think i just kept laughing at the characters… because it was all so much more dramatic than it had to be. i think that’s also what makes it interesting and quite endearing in its own way.
my favourite character without a doubt was the persian. if i were stuck in that torture chamber with raoul i might have done something unthinkable to him… he is a better person than i am.
the new directors surprisingly were fun. this could be because the suffering of these random men was entertaining to me, who really knows. but their obsession with the money in the pocket truly was so unnecessary and stupid. i enjoyed reading it.
despite how annoying raoul was at times, the romance between him and christine was written very well. i do think it was dramatic but it’s the phantom of the opera, everything’s dramatic.
erik lowkey just had to get a better hobby. like baking. i stand by that. also what was the point of doing all that only to back away at the last second? he made zero sense but whatever, the book had to end somehow.
the atmosphere however, really carried this book. i could picture everything vividly and it’s this factor that i would say contributes towards the largest portion of this rating.
anyway, a nice examination of unrequited love and obsession!

I have never seen or heard anything about "Phantom of the Opera", so this was my first experience with the story/characters. I have to say that this was a weird/boring story to read.
The first half of the story is sorta interesting with a Ghost that haunts an Opera House and how that affects the people who work there. As well as the mystery surrounding the Phantom.
The later half feels like a whole different story and is sorta a jumbled mess. But at least I have a reason to go check out other adaptations of "Phantom of the Opera".

Under no circumstances should the Phatom be called a monster.
