I feel like this series is missing something. Also, the way the characters react to certain situations is not what I really thought would happen-not in a "woah, that was awesome way," but more like, "this doesn't really make sense."

A whole lotta nothing until the last 15% and then we were right back to where we began 😂
Usually I wouldn’t read the last book but at this point I might as well 😂

This book was really good. It is soo beautifully written. I loved all of the poems that are included in the story, my favourite being the “Do Not Go Gentle” one. That one is amazing, and ever since I read it in the first book I’ve loved the touch of rebellion it brought to the story.

I also enjoyed getting to see the story from Ky’s POV, getting to know more about him, his story, and getting to see his thoughts and emotions. Also, I feel like this book really improved Cassia’s and Ky’s characters. I feel like (especially in Ky’s case) this story delved deeper into their pasts, and their thoughts and emotions, and it really made a difference. Especially in Cassia’s case; at the beginning of ‘Matched,’ she had accepted the society and had just given up her life to them, and now, at the end of ‘Crossed,’ she has joined a rebellion that plans on taking the Society down. I really think that the way Cassia changed has brought a big change to the story, and a very good one. I’m so excited to see what she’ll be like in ‘Reached.’

One last thing that I admire about this trilogy is the cover of each book. It may be a small thing, but I really adore the cover with Cassia in the glass ball, slowly breaking out. I think that really embodies the whole story. The first book had Cassia, in her green Matching dress, sitting inside a glass sphere, fully closed off from anything else. I feel like (to me, at least) this shows how she had accepted that her life was controlled by the Society. The second book has Cassia, no longer in a dress, breaking a couple holes into the glass sphere, and I feel like this represents how she slowly started coming out of her shell and developing a taste for rebellion, no longer wanting to put her life into someone else’s hands. And the last book I have not read yet, but it has her standing up from the broken sphere, and I’m super excited to read about that.

Overall, I think this book was an excellent addition to the series, and I can’t wait to see what’s next.

YA Rating Scale: 3,5.

While I appreciate the poetry aspect of these books, this one was so utterly boring that I had to force myself not to DNF it. I don't particularly care for Cassia or Ky, so it's hard to root for them. The Rising feels extremely vague, and there's almost no tension in this whole book.

Every review I have read about this book is bad,... I seemed to really like it. Lately, I have fallen in love with the Matched series. I thought this book was really good, being a Matched fan like I am. The idea of poetry being in the book is so unique, I give credit to Ally Condie for that. I thought that Cassia and Ky wouldn't get together at all until Reached, but I was proven wrong. I wish that they could've found each other sooner, since they did, but I have to remind myself not to be selfish because like I said I didn't think they would find each other in this book. The new characters kind of put me on edge, but Cassia and Ky seized to surprise me by becoming different people who I seemed to like better. There were some parts to the book that I didn't understand, but that's what these puzzle books are supposed to be like. You are supposed to find out more by reading. I wish there was more Ky and Cassia's love in it because it's so adorbs. I guess now I have to buy Reached and see what all of the secrets are and I'm just so excited. Btw it helps by listening to a Matched series playlist or light music that you like while reading, it keeps you more motivated.

Do you trust the rising or the society?
Do you risk everything for Ky?
How many more secrets are the rising hiding from us?

I like the reoccurring themes of poetry and the beauty of words. I'm glad that I could experience the story from more than one point of view.

My insatiable need to know how the story ends kept me reading but I stopped really enjoying the writing. The characters seemed flat and I couldn't connect. I'm gonna read the last book just because I like to see things through til the end.

Hmm. I can't decide whether or not to rate this book a 2 or a 3. Condie's writing has a lyrical quality which I like, and I also like her characterizations. That being said, I felt like very little happened in this volume of the series. I'll still pick up the next one, but I can't help but wonder if this trilogy would have done better as a duology.
