I'm torn about this book. I like it, but I feel like it could do so much more! I still have to read the third book so there's still hope!

I felt like this book threw a ton of information at the reader all at once. It was a little much to process in only about 350 pages, and there was still all the plot elements about Ky and Cassia finding each other again, Xander being there still, and new characters who were introduced.

Somehow this book also felt less compelling and urgent than Matched did, which I thought was unusual. You don't expect a second novel to feel less like doom is coming than the first one.

I also think that the characters are massively falling prey to the "Let's never talk to each other, answer each other's questions, or do anything that might clear up mysteries or provide general information" trope. I am sure TV tropes has a name for this, but I don't know what it is. Ky and Xander are especially guilty of this. Between the two of them, they have the knowledge to literally remove all of the conflict from this book, which makes me question the necessity of that conflict at all. If Condie had made this a straight-up survival story, I probably would have found it a lot more compelling and readable, but instead there was all this "does he love me, why is he hiding things from me, how does he know more about Xander than I do" conflict that got really old really fast.

I do like Indie, though. I think she might be my favorite character right now. Also, she is my favorite to become the Pilot, although I somehow doubt that any of the three who joined the Rising are going to become the Pilot.

The story was very slow and seems quite confusing at times. I wasn't a huge fan of those love triangle that was alluded to but hopefully the third book is better.

We’re running we’re running oh no we got caught THSI IS THE WHOLE BOOK!!!! I DONT CARE THAT YOU LEFT THE WORLD U KNEW AND LOVED I DONT CARE THAT U GET SENT TO KENYA

I feel like it was better than the first one in a sense that more happened. But it's still a lot of the characters just kinda whining about their situations in their head. I'm not a fan of the changing point of views either. I hate that in books! Yes it's nice to see what they are thinking, but the whole switching every chapter just got on my nerves! I almost wanted to read the whole book thru reading just the chapters from cassias view, then go back for kys! Lol

Much better than Matched in my opinion. Simply put Cassia bores me so the opportunity to get some insight on Ky was much appreciated.

Great!
