As soon as I finished reading the first book in the series I knew I had to continue on with the next book because I enjoyed the first book enough to want to continue reading but it wasn’t memorable enough for me to postpone the second book because if not I was going to forget everything that happened. After reading the second book I can confidently say that this is the perfect example of second book syndrome because absolutely nothing happens and the author is just preparing us for the third and final book.

In Crossed we follow the events right after the first book. We see Cassia now in the outer provinces trying to find Ky and join the rebellion.

Like I said, this book is second book syndrome, in terms of plot there isn’t a lot of, everything that happens is just in preparation for the final book, the pace is extremely slow and we get some very irrelevant descriptions and details about the world and the characters. However I have to give it to this book in terms of the incredible writing, the writing in Crossed and well as in the first one is very lyrical and beautiful.

In terms of the characters, we follow the same characters from the first book with the addition of a few more. I am starting to dislike Cassia more and more as time passes and I am growing very fond of Ky and Xander. (honestly she doesn’t deserve them). The secondary characters were a little more fun to get to know, Ellie and Vic are so heartwarming and sweet and strong.

What I liked the most about this book was the double narrative. It was refreshing to read from the perspective of someone other than Cassia and my favorite parts ended up being the ones narrated by Ky. I think it was a great decision by the author to add a second perspective to give the story more depth and to pack a bigger punchline.

Overall I was satisfied with my reading experience of Matched, it is not the best book I have ever read and even though I didn’t like it as much as the first one I am still intrigued enough to finish the whole series. I am very interested in seeing how the author is going to wrap the story up and I sense that some drama is coming my way.

Hard to rate this one because it's such a transition story. I may change it after I read the final book, but right now everything is hanging too much. Seemed quite slow to me.

I will admit, I am a sucker for a series. All the same, after reading Matched, I wasn't sure if I would continue with Condie's trilogy. I'm glad I did. I found Crossed to be more dynamic then Matched, perhaps because it was an instance of the characters further exploring their world rather than existing solely within the tight confines of the Society. I also appreciated the alternating POV used throughout the novel. It was obviously a necessary tool, given that the two main characters spend the first half of the book in different places, but it also aided in providing alternative interpretations of events and individuals. Overall, a good read.

I really liked the first book and this was a really dissapointing sequel. Almost painful to get through. It really feels like they're just wandering out in the wilderness for no reason the whole time.

Decent. Doesn't recap what happened in Matched so helps to have read it recently. I had a hard time remembering some of the things referenced. This book alternates chapters between Cassia and Ky, and while it's nice to hear Ky's perspective, sometimes in the middle of the chapter, it's difficult to remember who's narrating. Crossed is much more about character development than world-building, though we do learn a little more about the Society and those who are on the outside of it. It's heavy romance-centered though, and sometimes the voices felt overly dramatic, which became annoying. At times the characters' actions were hard to understand too. It wasn't until around Chapter 37 that it finally really started to get more exciting for me. If the purpose of the middle book is to move the characters and plot along, this works without being outstanding on its own. I'm interested to see how the trilogy will end.

The readers were pretty good in this one which is why I gave it 3 stars, but I found the plot dragging a lot. Minimal action in my opinion and not an overly exciting ending. Probably won't read the last one.

It was boring. It didn't go anywhere. Every sentence was this short. In the entire book. I was "meh" about this first book (Matched) and like this one even less. I think I'll just look up the plot of the third to find out what happens. Unless someone convinces me otherwise. And seriously, the whole book. Short, abrupt sentences. Yuck!!

I did not enjoy this book nearly as much as Matched. Parts really seemed to drag on which I felt the complete opposite with Matched. I am still planning on reading Reached because I want to see how the series ends, but I am hoping that it picks up and has more action.
