Eddie Huang has a funny and irreverent voice that gives this book phenomenal character. This book is as much about coming into one's own as a continuous process as it is about food and culture. As much of a story about race in America as it is about food, this book effortlessly interweaves multiple themes and ideas and speaks to the complexity of Eddie's life and experience.

Males that were born in the late 70's early 80's should read this book! Very funny if you are part of that demographic.

There’s a lot of language in this, which isn’t really my jam. But it was still great to learn about his experiences! I’m glad I listened!

This book took me approximately 200 years to finish on Audible, which might color my opinion a bit. I didn’t dislike this book, but I wasn’t really wowed by it. Listening to the audiobook read by the author makes it more engaging than I think it would be in print, but overall it didn’t grab me. If you are particularly interested in food or hiphop you might love it! But most of the references went over my head, and I had a lot of trouble relating to the author and got bored about half way through. It’s not a bad book, and it definitely has more meat than some memoirs I’ve read by youngish authors, but I mostly only finished it because I paid for it.
