Lovely book. The author uses a combination of personal anecdotes and scientific material to paint a picture of how animals experience life, and how humans affect that. Wohlleben's voice is so charming that even the acknowledgments are a joy to read. The inclusion of so many stories from his own life give the book a memoir-like feel. The writing evokes a sense of calm without being boring. Definitely worth a read, even if you're not usually a nonfiction reader.

As Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson summarized in the introduction of The Inner Life of Animals, Peter Wohlleben is "writing not as a scientist but as an observant animal lover.". Fun, easy, thoughtful, a delight indeed.

Very pleasant to read, interesting and unique. Peter Wohlleben has a great knowledge of animals - their lives, habits, experiences. Now I know many facts I wasn't aware of and hopefully understand other living creatures better. Truly recommend it.

This book was good but not what expected or hoped for. I was hoping for something more “sciencey” more like his “The Hidden Life of Trees.” He takes observations of animals and then argues that animals have emotions and thoughts like humans. Well written, full of heartwarming stories (more of these than actual studies), and an easy, succinct read.

SO INTERESTING! Give it a read if you are intrigued by the emotions of nature. It has definitely changed my perspective on my family's pets and angered me with the disrespect some show to nature in their delusion of superiority.

While this was a soothing read, there wasn't much within the pages that I hadn't heard in other works. Moreover, while I appreciate Wohlleben's love of the animal world, I do fall on the side of skeptics who feel we impose our own value judgements/interpretations of the world too easily on the members of the animal kingdom. While I'm always happy to advocate for better treatment of other creatures, I'm not sure if I think the way to do it is by making people thinking they're closer to being "like us". Still, Wohlleben's passion was gracefully articulated, and I'm sure that there are many animal lovers who would enjoy getting lost in this book.
