I had higher expectations for this book, something more than a dude's basically autobiographical anecdotes about his experiences raising and watching animals. It definitely felt like he ran out of steam at some point too, and the stories got less and less interesting. I came away from this with no new knowledge and no deeper insights into the subject matter, which is unfortunately what I was looking for.

It might be better suited to young children.

4,5/5, I really enjoyed reading it.

Having read the Secret life of trees, I enjoyed the leisurely read of this one as well. Don't expect science, expect excellent observations and a nice walk in the forest !

Do animals have emotions? Do fish feel pain? How intelligent are pigs? Can animals lie? And more. Nothing deeply scientific, more of an entertaining pop science primer, interspersed with humourous anecdotes. Each emotion gets an entry with several examples of different animals and how they could feel and what researchers have to say about it. The books culminates in the question if animals can think and solve abstract problems. And if animals have a soul. And if they do, can there be a life after death for them? Seriously?

It was mildly interesting in parts, but pretty shallow, a bit monotonous and with a very repetitive structure. Ultimately I was underwhelmed, I expected more.

Menos emocionado que o de plantas. Mais informativo, mais cheio de detalhes sobreo que ele quer te convencer.

Second time reading. Really sweet book with a premise I wholeheartedly agree with.

I think I'll be donating this one and if I ever want to read it again I buy it on my Kobo. Hopefully no one minds the corner nibbled on by a bunny

Lots of compelling information about how animals experience emotions like us, but there were moments where the author lost my attention. Overall, it was fascinating, and something I’d read again in the future, as I feel like new information will stick with you when you read it a second time!

This was my second book by Peter Wohlleben and I enjoyed it, however my preference goes to the 'Hidden life of trees'. I am guessing this is, because I knew nothing about trees, however, being a veterinarian, I do have knowledge about what Peter is talking about in this book.
The narrator was just as good as for the first book.
For someone with limited knowledge about the animal kingdom, this will be highly entertaining and informative!
