It gives an origin story for The Cape but it doesn't feel necessary or as well done. Not terrible but a less interesting retread of the stellar orginal

Poco aporta además de dar una explicación al origen de la capa. Como historia independiente, flojita.

The characters were one-dimensional, especially the villain.

The plot was uninspired, especially since the protagonist had the power to fly.

It didn't work as a superhero story, a war story, or a revenge story.

Want to know how the cape's power came to be?

This is a prequel to Joe's short story "The Cape"

Getting a look into some of the whys asked in The Cape is the focus of this prequel. I enjoyed as much as the original, possibly more. The back story provided is fantastic and makes the original even more tragic. I wish this book was a little longer and shed more light on the antagonists but overall it was a good read.

This feels like a prequel to the rest of the series, and I’m always hesitant about reading prequels before the story especially without context…. It’s hard to care about the lore of you aren’t sure where it goes, but we will see how my opinion changes as I get into this series in the near future.

I actually enjoyed this more than [b:The Cape|13492476|The Cape|Joe Hill|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1342641671s/13492476.jpg|19032827] because the violence actually belonged in a story about Vietnam. It certainly went a long way to explain the cape itself, and also to explain, in some small way, why Eric was the way he ended up being.

I'm not one for war stories usually, but I didn't mind the setting here. The art work was on par and I spent quite a bit of time examining the illustrations of the "witch." Very original and spooky.
