Having been a huge fan of the series Bones, I have dipped in and out of the Temperance Brennan series and I always enjoy the books when I do.
Things are not going well for Tempe, as she has previously clashed with her new boss who is now trying to keep her away from the department. Trying to solve a crime without the comfort and familiarity of her department means Temperance has a whole new set of challenges.
Another great addition to the series, which I continue to enjoy and plan on going back to read all of some day soon!

I read this for my 2020 Reading Challenge and the prompt was a book about a woman in STEM. I had to Google what that meant when I saw that it meant I immediately thought of temperance brennan. I have loved this series since I started reading it back in college. This book did not let me down. Part of the book was actually set the county where I reside.
Sad to say, this is the last Reichs book I'll be reading. I was hoping for an improvement on the last one and it hasn't happened. I dont know if it's just me, but her writing style seems to have changed over the last 2 books and I don't enjoy it at all. Also, Tempe has become a bit of a b***h! Such a shame for what used to be a great series.
I won “A Conspiracy of Bones” via the Goodreads Giveaway. I had never heard of Kathy Reichs or her famed character, Temperance Brennan, before picking up this book. I was nervous that since I hadn’t read the other 18 books prior to this one that I would be lost. Fortunately that was not the case!
At first I didn’t think I would like the book as it started off slow, I even put it down and read a different book. But once I got back into it, I was sucked in and couldn’t put it down. I was literally reading this book at stop lights on the way to work and when my code was building. Any spare time and I was getting in another chapter here and there. I had to know what Dr. Brennan and Slidell were tracking down next and who the culprit was.
It was only after finishing that I found out that Reichs was in “Bones” and is an forensic anthropologist in real life! And a fantastic one at that. While reading, I had little doubts that what Dr. Brennan explained during her work was accurate and finding out Reichs is in the industry only confirmed that. I also found it cool how Reichs puts together her books with little pieces of real life instances here and there. Solis author.
I will definitely be dabbling in the rest of this series.

This particular addition to the Temperance Brennan series didn't do much for me. Unlike previous installments, the mystery was slow and unengaging and I often found my mind wandering. Kathy Reichs explains in the afterword that she, like her titular character, was diagnosed with a brain aneurism that is a ticking time bomb, which is why there was a five year gap between the previous book in the series and this one. So my guess is that Reichs is rusty, understandably, and her next book will be a return to form.
I will absolutely be picking up The Bone Code when it is released in July.

First of all, I loved seeing Brennan with migraines! As someone with Daily Chronic Migraines, it was awesome to see that as a major part of the book. I loved how it did not stop her from working hard and living life when she could. This book was interesting in the plot, characters and result. I was interested but I found my mind wondering and the mystery was too convoluted for my liking. I would recommend picking up this book if you are interested in the synopsis. It was just a bit too much for me in regards to the end result.

So between that, Dave needing to work tonight, Vonnie having jaw issues and my recovery, we're going to postpone a week. The universe is being subtle in having 60% of our group have something making this week difficult.

Though still not quite the quality of early Temperance Brennan novels, this is definitely one of the better ones in recent years. I felt the book lagged a bit in the middle, it definitely picked back up without having a crazy, unbelievable ending. I really felt like Tempe was much more human in this novel than in some others and i really enjoyed it.
