I really enjoyed this book, short and sweet.

The first part was a bit slow going but in part two it really picked up and was thoroughly enjoyable. I wish it was longer, to have more closure to the story.

I am really enjoying the books published by Pushkin Press, happy to have discovered these books this year and so many new authors from all over the world.

I picked this up for a reading prompt but it turned out not to fit the challenge. I may come back to it.

I wasn’t sure what to expect but this was great and I’ll definitely pick up her other books. A great souvenir from Iceland :)

This book was a beautiful journey. It seemed to be about nothing, and everything, simultaneously. A tale about how traveling and lending one’s self to a new place can save your soul.

I’m still grappling with the ending. Maybe Ólafsdóttir found it important to say that happy endings are beautiful and meaningful and possible, but we should be realistic in that happiness.

Giving her reader an entirely happy ending for Jónas was not the message she wanted to send. That is life. That is the sound behind excruciating silence.

An odd book. The main character Jonas deals with his depression by deciding to die. He decides to go to a very dangerous place and stay for a while before his death. The book follows his path to fixing the war-torn buildings around him and himself. The writing in books by this author is superb. The stories always leave me wanting more.
