2.5 stars. I wanted to like this more than I did. I'm a sucker for stories based on religious Vodou (as opposed to spooky horror voodoo) and those parts were good. But the book was slow, there were a lot of unnecessary bits (like one character having sex with his partner while she slept - was it rape? It added nothing). The characters weren't particularly likable or relatable.

Due sets up a page turner about the skeptical granddaughter of a voodoo priestess who has unknowingly inherited something sinister on the land that has been passed down to her. After a devastating tragedy rips her family apart, the granddaughter will come to realize that there is a force gearing up to finalize a battle began generations ago.

Really good stuff here. And takes place in my home state of Washington so bonus points there as well.
