This has been an absolute slog.  I just can't go on.

This book could have been like 100 page shorter. While I did initially like the plot, the side stories from other characters dragged the book longer than it needed to be.
The book was also published in 2003/2006 so some of the wording within the book was a bit outdated and could come off as offensive to some groups.

I am happy that Angela was able to get your happy ending.

I love books that make me cry :,) fr tho I don’t fully understand everything that happens in this book bc I know like nothing abt Vodou  but yeah. very interesting story. I did get kind of mixed up with some of the characters tho in the middle with the townspeople but that’s ok. I really loved the parts from Corey’s perspective personally (which like made me cry even more I love that boy so much).

3.5 for sure. This was only my 2nd audio book ever so that has something to do with how I felt about this book. Still trying to get used to that. But Ms dues writing is beautiful and I always love a good haunted house story

Fantastic, fantastic book. Felt like reading a hefty King book when I was younger - a big cast of interesting characters, a slow burn that acclimates you with a small town, and some real nasty moments of darkness. Due is an excellent writer, and the prose is spot on throughout.

The only thing stopping me giving it 5* is the ending. I don't know yet that I don't like it, I'm going to chew on it and may bump the rating up if I end up loving it. Perhaps it just doesn't feel like the ending the story earned, I'm not quite sure.

Good ghost story. Will leave you a little creeped out.

This was a slow-burn haunted house horror. The characters and the family history was so well done, and the dark and woodsy small-town setting was perfect. I loved this book so much… but I was so sick reading it that it took me forever and I think I lost a lot of the compelling pace. I’m definitely going to have to revisit this so I can enjoy the creepy horror aspect properly.
