“I didn’t call you for platitudes... If I wanted that hollow bullshit, I would’ve picked up a get-well card at the dollar store.”
First off, I do not reccomend this book or series often, & it's not for everyone. Read all the CW for all the books before considering this series. They look unsuspecting, but pack a lot of emotional punches. (I might edit all my prior reviews to include this.)
“What you hold onto is less important than the act of holding on itself. It’s so easy to get lost in ourselves and this world. Sometimes you need to find your way back one tiny miracle at a time.”
I love this series because it hurts me, & this book is no exception. Jean is another broken character to add to the "Too Precious for this World" farm & that need to be protected at all costs. (& I have a sneaking suspicion Jeremy is as well...)
“It’s impressive, isn’t it? How easily these monsters die in the end.”
This book was one of my most anticipated releases last year, but I wasn't in the right headspace to read it until now. I'm simultaneously grateful that I waited to read it until I was ready, but also sad that I missed the last 15 months of knowing this book already.
“What we don’t understand is how a grown-ass man took a bunch of kids and turned them into monsters for sport.”
Excited to see what comes next for Jean, Jeremy, the rest of the Sunshine Court, the Ravens, & our Foxes on the fringes...
“How dare they blame you for anything after what they did to you. How dare you grieve them.”
Representation: bi MC, gay MC, wlw relationship, lesbian supporting characters, trans & nonbinary supporting characters, polyam couple representation
"They sold us both to monsters and slammed the door on our screams."
