The Sunshine Court

Nora Sakavic

4.51 AVERAGE

The way Sakavic has her fandom by the throat. Taking place after the original trilogy, this book is from the perspectives of Jean Moreau and Jeremy Knox as Jean unlearns how to be a Raven and learns how to be a Trojan instead. We love to see that healing journey. And I’m also loving meeting all the new characters. Sakavic has always had a knack for writing extremely lovable, flawed, complicated characters.

Ok Nora, what the fuck was this. I was equally horrified and entertained. I was stupid to think Andrew, Niel and the foxes would be in it, but I enjoyed the new cast of characters. I would like to read the next book, but might leave it a bit to recover from this my god. Like, I just can't even give this a review at the moment. Still, it was a fun read !

I love this world and this absolutely bizarre map of sports-mobsters. But this was disappointing for several reasons, mostly because it seems as though Salavik has not learned any lessons.

As a woman, queer or otherwise, it is strange and uncomfortable to write about gay, sexually traumatized men almost exclusively. Andrew is one case; but being so graphic with Jean’s trauma is frankly disgusting. It’s weird to have central points of trauma in your novel about mobster violence be an adolescent boy being raped by six men on his college Exy team. And the fact that this has been a central “character moment” in both of her series is concerning. That being said, obviously I love Andrew and Neil, and Jeremy and Jean.

When I tell you I screamed. On several occasions. This is painful (yeay). 350 pages of pain pain painful helaing Jean content featuring the puppy squad from Cali!
And there's gonna be a second part and I can't wait and Jesus this was amazing.
