Very annoyed by the end. It's a pageturner, but at the same time it's exaggerated and it explains so little...

This book was a harrowing read. Trigger warning: this book has an immense amount of sexual assault and child sexual abuse with graphic descriptions throughout. While I think it was important to include the horrors inflicted upon others by the serial killer at large, I'm not sure it had to take up so much of the book. I also think this book could have been 200 pages shorter. The real heart of the investigation gets going in the final 300 pages and they are riveting. I will say this book shows the transferral of trauma better than I've seen most fiction books do so I admire that. There were a fair amount of mysterious twists in the book as well which made it an enthralling read. All in all it was an exciting, yet disturbing read. EDIT: apparently the English translation of this book "Crow Girl" is the three-book trilogy of the Swedish editions all condensed into one book so it makes sense it's 700 pages.

Overlong and ultimately unsatisfying. Would have been more thrilling minus 200-odd pages.

I don't know if this should really sit as "didn't finish" so much as to-read because, I think I got like 40 pages in on a plane, fell asleep, and then never touched this book again the rest of that vacation because it was a super heavy thick hardcover, and then it accidentally sat in a half-unpacked suitcase for like 3 months and then I just put it back on the shelf, having moved on to other things. Someday?

Color me disappointed. I had very high hopes for this novel, but it ended up being long, tedious, boring, and the ending was meh. If you are a big fan of people struggling with mental issues, disorders this book is great it goes into detail about all that stuff. If you get out off by pedophiles, rape, and murder stay away from this novel. It is not for the faint at heart.

Finding this a difficult book to rate...it contains many unsettling images and descriptions and wasn't pleasant reading in parts due to the topics covered (sexual & physical abuse inside a "cult" is a generalised description), but, I liked the main character (police officer) and the book was well written and kept me intrigued.

It was very dark as a topic but descriptive in terms of Sweden & Denmark environments and society. This was classic Nordic Noir but definitely not for the faint hearted. I bought the book without having read any reviews. The blurb was grabbed my interest so I had no idea what awaited me.

I've rated it 5* based on the writing and story structure.

I have never read anything quite like this. In saying that I enjoyed it. This book is filled with a lot of characters and jumps through time, therefore can be confusing and reading some reviews, it is obvious that some people were not paying attention. If you are looking for a light easy read this is not for you. If you are wanting to read this I encourage you to do so, but stay focused. You think you know what is going on only to be left dumbfounded.
