'Jean-Michel Basquiat' by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara with illustrations by Luciano Lozano is an picture book about the famous artist.

Young Jean-Michel loved to draw art from a young age, and loved to visit museums with his mother. An unfortunate car accident when he was young brought him a useful present: an anatomy book. When he got older, he became famous for street art, became friends with Andy Warhol, and found his way into galleries and museums.

This series is great and finds interesting ways to tell true stories to young readers. The art in this volume ranks as some of my favorite in the series. As always, there is a timeline at the end of the book with photos of the subject.

I received a review copy of this ebook from The Quarto Group - Frances Lincoln Children's Books, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.

This biography for kids is about Jean-Michel Basquiat, a very talented artist who became known for his amazing graffiti. Despite personal challenges he was well-known for his talent.

The Little People, Big Dreams series is a great series for young children to learn about the great people who came before them. If you have children or grandchildren who want to learn about the past, you will like this series.

I received a free copy of this book from Frances Lincoln Children's Books and the authors via Netgalley. My review is voluntary.

This book looks great! Well, is it written well? Nah, not really. There are a couple of things, that are kinda weird looking and that catch your eye.
The topic about anatomy is picked up and then immediately dropped never to be heard again, even tho it is said that it inspired him a lot.
The drawn part says, that his mother got ill, but in the written part she was admitted to a "mental institution".
There is not a singular word about how he died nor why. This was probably done, because it is so hard to talk to children about drugs, but they could have at least said something.
And there is a point in book, where it is said that he got so famous, because he was not drawing royalty and turned towards normal people. Just a reminder that Jean-Michel Basquiat was born in 1960 and people were not drawing royalty that much for a while before that.
It was kinda weird.

I love the little people, big dreams books. They are well written, tell a delightful true story in an age appropriate way and have beautiful illustrations.

This is a wonderful introduction into teaching children about art. My daughter loved seeing Jean-Michel's art represented in the illustrations. I would love to see more of these books written about artist's. I didn't know much of his story before this book, but I will be looking for more to read about him!

The publisher made a copy of this book available on Netgalley. The thoughts and opinions here are my honest review.
