This book was great! I’m mad at myself for not reading it sooner. Slow at the beginning but quickly picks up.

I was hoping to enjoy 'The Ruins' more, but it wasn't anything extraordinary. This is a highly anticipated read because the movie edition is nostalgic for me.
The reason that it isn't a higher rating for multiple reasons. There was a part that felt like it happened because it needed to happen for the author. There was a decision made and I felt that it didn't make sense for the characters. (You did ALL that. ALL that to not even look for more than 20 mins? and that's me being generous. Iykyk)  I predicted that there has to be a motive behind the authors choice. And that's the thing, it felt like the authors choice, not the character's. There was a part of the story later concluded my prediction would be right. She used that event to reveal information to the reader. There is also lack of character depth. Scott made two dimensional characters with plenty of potential. If I don't really care what happens to the characters then I feel like I'm a person reading from the distance. Emotionally unattached and cold hearted.
The concept was cool. I like the filth and how uncomfortable I got reading. The dynamic between all of them was fun to read about. However, some parts of the were slow for me. I think the book could've been shorter. And Scott has jokes.
Fun read. Id do it again if I hadn't done so already.

this was fine! the gore and body horror was really fun and gross and i love the vines. none of the characters had much depth though, like they were very much defined by a singular personality trait- boy scout jeff, slutty stacy, etc, which made it less engaging and i didnt really care what happened to them
i was surprised by the deaths though! ive seen the movie so i didnt know how different the book was and i think its very interesting how the movie ends like how they talked about in the book, but then amy is actually the first to die here.. i was so surprised lol
i liked the ending being pretty bleak tbh because i couldnt imagine any other type of ending working? but i wish the last chapter wasnt included, i think ir wouldve hit harder if no one ever came for them

I’m only giving it a 1 star because everyone dies
I hated every character except the Greeks, unsure if I was meant to to but I was not rooting for any of them by the mid point of the group, none were redeemable. Almost stopped reading multiple times but struggled through with hopes it would get better.. it didn’t
