Has an unfortunate title. It contains reflections on growth, time, colonialism, growth, and love. I regret the title kept me away for as long as it did. Very well done military science fiction.

I'm one of those people who liked the movie better than the book. Crazy, right? It had a lot to do with the ending and the middle of the book vs anything else the book did. I liked the non-linear plot line of the book, which wouldn't have worked all that well in movie format, and the writing felt solid. The two things I didn't like, aside from the middle, was the ending and that we saw the entire love thing between the two of them. I liked it more when it was implied.

Otherwise, solid book.

Oh sweet mercy. A really well-written, well-illustrated manga that isn't 482 volumes long! It acutally finishes, hurrah! Well worth a read.

This was a really fun time. I think it helped seeing the movie adaptation first, because it was easy to picture the details in my mind. I really enjoyed the pacing and the action. The characters were pretty shallow, but I didn't expect too much from a 200-page sci fi thriller. I did think it got a little weirdly philosophical at the end and that brought my rating down.

Think, "Groundhog Day" meets "Armor" by John Steakley and you have a good idea of what this book is all about.

It's become hard for me to play video games now... Thanks Sakurazaka!
