A short, fun sci-fi action read. The twist at the end was slightly obvious as it was coming, but different enough to keep it interesting.

kinda like Starship Troopers, but with time travel instead of philosophy.

An action-packed military sci-fi that's gripping and very easy to read. Keiji Kiriya relives the same day again and again, fighting alien mimics as he slowly figures out what's happening to him. He becomes the protoge of the Full Metal Bitch, the baddest, maddest, most lethal soldier that Earth has ever seen. She takes him under her wing and trains him to become an alien-killing machine as they race to discover how to save the day.

I didn't like it as much as I remember from when I read it years ago. I think that's because of the characterisation, and I found the explanation of the ending somewhat dissapointing. But it's got mech suits tearing through aliens with huge titanium axes, which is pretty awesome.

Interesting premise so far. Whilst it reads like a Manga, it also reads like a good war novel as well as reading like a really cool Cyberpunk novel which makes this book really refreshing, considering how lame, dullard and nerdy the American cyberpunk genre has become.

A modern hi-tech soldier fights a battle against a mysterious 'alien' foe called mimics, and finds that he comes back to life every time he dies. He starts to think that maybe his 'death' is actually just a nightmare that he keeps waking up from.

This is great, creative pulp the way it should be. Full of crazy ideas, strange environments and mind-bending philosophy.

Dig it!

this book was shorter than I expected, but had some good values. read it before the movie ... as I know the movie won't do it justice.

A good cross between Starship Troopers and Groundhog Day. With a good reason for the repeating of the day.

The narration is sooo true to the character's traits and very boy-ish I almost grinned reading every page. The relationship between Keiji and Rita is complex and awkward and somewhat sweet at the same time because they are basically alone and have no one to talk to, or to understand them. The plot moves pretty fast, it's thrilling and hard to put down.

I wanted to read this novel after seeing the movie with Tom Cruise. I know books often are much better than the movies based on them, but this book had a depth of character that wasn't present in the movie and the ending was much better. I'm not sure why they decided to make the changes they did for the movie other than thinking Tom Cruise would bring in more of an audience and making the main character white would be more "accessible" to western audiences.
