While trying to escape an abusive relationship Skylar Long is rescued by the local sheriff, Danny Oldman. Turn out the Danny Oldman has had a crush on Sklyar since high school. He’s in the right place at the right time to help. Will Skylar finally be free? I thoroughly enjoyed this story not realizing it was set around Christmas. I did feel the story drug on at some points to whereI it could have been wrapped up sooner than it was. The story is a tough one because of physical and mental abuse. The author did a job developing the characters and keeping me in suspense as to when the “villain”, Matt, would strike again. The tension between Danny and Skylar was pretty hot and their time between the sheets was written well. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

4.25 stars. A Cowboy Like You is one of those stories that seems so much shorter than it truly is because it flies by as you are reading, and you fall in love with it quickly. There is enough action and drama to keep you on the edge of your seat, but the real core of the story is two people finding each other even in the turmoil of their lives and finding a way to overcome their obstacles to love. Danny is a hero in every sense of the word and a sexy beast in boots on top of that. I enjoyed every moment of truly getting to know him and found myself wishing I had my very own Danny to love. Skylar was in a truly difficult situation, but she managed to get herself out and instinctively took herself home, leaving fate to do the rest and bring her right into the arms of the one man that could truly save her in every way. She needed help, but she doesn’t cave under pressure or in the face of danger and leave others to fight her fights, standing up and making sure that her tormentor knows she is done and will bring him down once and for all. The passion between these two was incendiary and I was dying to see them in one another’s sphere each time it happened, but the sweet heat that was left burning after the initial flashes always left a warm glow for extended time. The love between Danny and Skylar is the kind we all hope to find someday and reminds readers that there truly is someone out there for us all if we just let fate lead us and keep our eyes and hearts open. I can’t wait for whatever comes next in this series and would love to see police chief Ryan maybe get his own book (wink wink, nudge nudge Donna)! Thanks for the repeated magic, Ms. Grant.

This was just okay for me. I haven't read the others in this series, so the beginning was a little confusing when Danny takes Skylar to the East Ranch and everyone is there. They're sorta introduced, but there is so many people it was overwhelming. I wasn't a fan of how fast the MCs get into a relationship either. While I get instant attraction, a woman escaping from an abusive relationship doesn't strike me as someone who would immediately jump into another relationship. The whole "they went to high school together" didn't really work for me either. That was at least 15 years ago, and they weren't even really friends then. The stuff that happens with Matt towards the end of the book could be triggering for some people. It was a little heavier than I thought it would be. Danny and Skylar do get their HEA, even though it was hard fought. Although this wasn't a favorite, I would read this author again.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.

**I received a copy of a Cowboy Like You from Social Butterfly PR and Net Galley in exchange for a voluntary and honest review. My opinions and thoughts weren't solicited in any way.**

A Cowboy Like You by Donna Grant is the fourth book in her Heart of Texas series. I've read all of them as well as her Son's of Texas series too. But I have to tell you I loved this book, because of the TLC Ms. Grant took with the subject of a possessive and abusive boyfriend who doesn't understand the word NO. *There are triggers Domestic Abuse and stalker boyfriend.*

Danny Oldman is the Sheriff of Lone Star and longs for the family that all of his friends have but when he happens to be in the right place at the right time to rescue Skylar Long from her abusive boyfriend. They went to school and lost track after they graduated. Now Skylar needs his help when her ex-boyfriend follows her to Lone Star. But what she doesn't know is there is a lot more she didn't know about Matt Gaudet and his family who think money will solve everything or make it go away. It takes everyone from Clayton,Abby, Caleb, Audrey, Brice, Naomi and Cash to help dig up dirt and keep Skylar and Danny safe when Matt goes way beyond threats.

I hope all the remaining friends find their happy ever afters.

I really felt for Skylar, her ex wasn't just an asshat, he was a nasty piece of humanshite.

Danny and Skylar knew each other in HS, and he fancied her, but nothing ever happened. They meet again as she is running from her ex. Ok so yes not the best time to meet again, and sure I do wish more time had gone by. But then again, if you fall in love you fall in love. And they do try to take it slowly, and not you know jump each other at once.

The ex was a abusive, possessive scumbag. I hated him so much. And I want to say more, but spoilers, but oh it made me mad.

Danny was a good guy (I had to ask Carole about the whole cop vs sheriff thing and I still do not get it). But yes he is the sheriff.

Skylar was strong and determined. They were perfect for each other.

But before that there is a lot of ex drama, and more drama. And danger.

I liked it. There are lot of background people from previous books, but it still work great as it is.

Narrator
I liked Estrella, I have listened to her before (cowboy romances), and she is always great

Skylar never thought her life would lead her back to her home town, but that exactly where she was headed when her life with her boyfriend took a frightening turn. She also never expected Danny to be the one to save her. All of a sudden it's like time never passed and all she can see is him. The Sheriff. The boy who was everyone's friend. Who would help anyone in need. Now it seems it's her turn, and she definitely needs help.
Danny never expected his evening would end with saving Skylar from her crazy boyfriend. He never expected to see her again. It's like she never left. Neither did his feelings for her. He would do anything to keep her safe. Even asking his friends for help. Every day with her makes it harder to ignore his feelings, it would only make things with her ex harder. Knowing she feels it too makes it impossible.
Her ex however will not give up easily, neither will his family. So keeping Skylar safe is all he can think about. He will not stop until she is free of het past, until her future is all she has to think about.
Another great story full of wonderful people and Cowboys who will do anything to protect the ones they love.

I will say this book did not disappoint at all but the book is super intense as it does deal with Domestic Violence and has you on the edge of your seat almost the whole book. I had a hard time putting this book down. You know who the bad guy is from the beginning but the author keeps you guessing on what is going to happen next and where the story is headed. The author did not sugar coat anything in this story. There is strong language and sex throughout the book so may not be suitable for all readers. This book was really good and completely worth the read. I also loved the "family" aspect of this story and how Danny surround himself with some great people who were not only friends but family and when Danny tried to withdrawal into himself they would set up and draw him back to the flock. Seriously this book will not let you down. I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley. I was under no obligation to post a review and have given my honest opinion

This book had a little bit of everything. It was a sweet, small-town, second chance romance but there was also an element of drama & suspense that made it hard to put the book down. Even though it was a bit predictable, I found myself devouring the book until I could see the bad guy get his just desserts and Danny & Skylar get their happy ever after.

This is absolutely a book, and series worth picking up!!

A Cowboy Like You is book 4 in the Heart of Texas series and it can be read as a stand-alone but I do recommend you start from the beginning because you get to know more about some of the secondary characters from this book.

I was so hooked into this story that I just couldn't put it down. This book has suspense and romance. I just loved the chemistry between Danny and Skylar. I loved seeing some of the characters from previous books as well.

I hear there will be the 5th book in this series and I can't wait to read it.

I do highly recommend this.

I am giving this 5 out of 5 stars.

Thanks to the publisher for an ARC to read and give my honest opinion.

I’m a fan of this author’s Dragon and Reaper series....so imagine my surprise to a Heart of Texas romance. Friends through high school Danny and Skylar meet years later during one of Skylars lowest moments. Danny is now law enforcement and Skylar is in an abusive relationship that she’s try to leave.

What did I like? This is obviously a series with intertwined characters because small towns band together and the friend’s Danny has, are more than willing to help Skylar. Danny recognizes Skylar and now understands its now or never to disclose his feelings for her. I just love HEA books.

Would I buy this book? Series? This is nothing like the author’s other series but as a romance it stands firmly on its own. I think her Dragon series are better, and so I am prejudiced. I limit my book cash monthly so if it was a contest Dragons would win. It’s a sweet series though.

Thoughts for the author? Where was I when books one through three came out? Thanks again for allowing me a copy.
