Thanks to Netgalley & St. martins press for this ARC! This is my honest review.

“Danny Oldman, the handsome Lone Star sheriff, is still single. He tells himself, and anyone who asks, that he is married to his job—and what matters most is keeping the people of his beloved Texas hometown safe. The truth? Danny still hasn’t gotten over his high school crush, Skylar. She moved away after graduation and took Danny’s heart with her.”

I love a good reunion story! This one included an interesting twist with Skylar being on the run from an abusive boyfriend - made even more appropriate since I read this story during #domesticviolenceawarenessmonth. As with the other books in this series - Donna Grant does a great job of weaving in action with romance! I liked that the police actually took her story seriously - that is something that (in real life) is unfortunately not as common as it should be.

I do highly recommend reading the other three books that came before this one - they provide a nice background on the characters.

This review was originally posted on Addicted To RomanceI received this book for free from St. Martins Press in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

A Cowboy Like You is the most recent book in the Heart of Texas series and I have been having such a fun time with these books and this whole world this author has created. I have to say I am highly impressed with seeing how she handles contemporary westerns with a blend of suspense thrown in. She definitely has done such a superb job in transferring from genre to genre. And as someone who adores western romantic suspense, I can't recommend this author enough.

Our story begins with our heroine, who is in danger. Skylar is shocked that her live in boyfriend, a man she thought owned her heart, is not the man she believed him to be. Matt turned out to be abusive and controlling and highly manipulative. And now she had thought she had found freedom but then he caught her again but then the sheriff of the county where she is attacked, comes onto the situation and saves her and takes her to a safe haven....now he takes her to his family's ranch which is built like a fortress. Skylar is realizing that she needs to stand against Matt and his powerful family. But as she is working to rebuilding her life, she finds something unexpected in Danny's embrace....a love worth fighting for

A Cowboy Like You was such a fun and intense book which shouldn't surprise me as its Donna Grant writing this. But the more I have read from this series the more I am falling in love with this ranch and this family who runs in. I just love how they come together and are so supportive of each other. Its such fun to see these two connect and find their way out of this tense filled situation. I really liked how this author implemented the villain's POV throughout the book, it allows us to see his motives and his actions to getting his revenge against Skylar. It also portrayed how wealth has power in many ways but that truth and justice can win against everything. I really respected seeing the various elements that this author placed into the story.

The romance that builds between Danny and Skylar but they have history. This is an unrequited love story. Danny and Skylar knew each other in high school. But Danny was never brave enough to approach her and both held a connection without even realizing it. Now they have found each other and their chemistry is highly explosive as is the danger they are in. For appearances, they have to hide what they feel for each other so that Skylar's ex doesn't realize the truth. I loved seeing the sexual tension build between them as they find their way secretly.

Overall I found A Cowboy Like You to be a western gem that embodies the bold and daring of the west with the thrills to embrace within it.

Danny Oldman and Skylar Long knew each other in high school, but even though Skylar had a crush on Danny, nothing came of it. It has been years since they have seen each other and what brings them back together is a rather sad situation. Danny is a cop, married to his job, and Skylar is in an abusive relationship. When Danny spies Skylar in trouble, little did either of them realize that now the timing for love has just arrived, but not without its challenges.

Skylar is afraid to trust. What is more is that her ex is extremely abusive and dangerous and if anyone helps her, she would worry for their safety. So she tries her best to get back on her feet by herself. However, the pull of attraction to Danny is more than she can resist, proving that second chances sometimes have a way of bringing true healing and joy.

I loved the first three books in the Heart of Texas series and have enjoyed reading this one and the two that follow. The stories balance drama, suspense, love, trust and deliver a warm happily ever after.

Many thanks to St. Martin's Press and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

FTC DISCLAIMER: I RECEIVED AN E-ARC FROM THE PUBLISHER THROUGH ONE OF A VARIETY OF SOURCES. I VOLUNTARILY OFFER MY HONEST REVIEW OF THE BOOK, THOUGH IT IS NOT EXPECTED OF ME! RECEIPT OF THIS BOOK IN THIS MANNER DOES NOT AFFECT MY OPINION OF THE BOOK OR THE CONTENT OF MY REVIEW!

I've read a lot of this author's works, and they've all been enjoyable reads, and this one was no exception! I was very pleased to see who this book featured for a main Hero!

Danny has always intrigued me since I read the first book. I'd always been hoping to have him have his own story, but when we got right down to it, he fell short. His loner nature wasn't fully explained by the "pining for my high school crush" trope used to explain it, especially since he seemed to be a take charge kinda guy.

I really liked Skylar! I was able to easily identify with her, and I liked her willingness to stand up to her ex. I had a difficult time believing that she was that in love with Danny that she'd jump into a relationship with him so soon after her "break up" with Matt. I would have liked to see her take a bit of a breath and mourn the loss of that relationship before taking up with Danny.

The book is fast paced and engaging, with a subtle suspense plot that threw in a few twists for me. All things considered, a very enjoyable read!

ARC received via Netgalley for an honest review

I have read all the Heart of Texas stories, and A Cowboy Like You has become my favourite.

Whilst it has all the trademarks of a lovely, sweet "cowboy" romance, it deals with some real life issues that so many are going through every day.

Danny and Skylar's story is beautiful and sexy, however it is hard and heartbreaking at the same time.

I don't want to give too much away about how things got to where they are, but just know that what Skylar is running from will get you right in the feels.

Danny is a knight with a shining badge. You can't help but love the guy.

It was great to see the couples from the previous books and to get an insight to where they are now.

There are so many great guys in these books, and I need to learn all of their stories!

I quite enjoyed this one. The characters were all likeable, apart from the ones we're meant to hate (and boy did I hate those ones), and it dealt with some serious real life issues.

We've met our hero Danny, in the other books in the series, and his friends at the East Ranch. As usual they all play a big role in the story, just this time it's Dannys personal story.

Our hero is Skylar and I won't say much about what's happening with her, except that its horrible and was dealt with in a good way with the writing of this story.

It did maybe drag out a little too long, but at the same time, everything was dealt with accordingly, and there were no loose ends with the storyline.

Enjoyed this one, and would recommend. Also would be interested in reading more about the other characters.

Wow, great story especially towards the end where I raced through it so fast.
This story is a scary reality for women who connect with obsessed men. Skylar fled back to her hometown and her high school crush. This could be a second chance for them if she survives.
Love the small town feel where everyone is family. The drama, action and romance made for a very entertaining story.

After reading the two previous books in the Heart of Texas series, I definitely wanted to read ‘A Cowboy Like You’ too. In this fourth book in the series (these books can easily be read as a standalone) we read the story of Danny Oldman, a Lone Star sheriff we read little bits about in the previous books.

Danny has been alone for a long time, and he is rather lonely. But he doesn’t want anyone to know he feels that way. Especially since he is the sheriff and has a job to do. And he really doesn’t want anyone to know he still thinks about this girl he had a crush on in high school many years ago.
This girl, Skylar has left her hometown years ago, and never looked back. But when her life got all messed up she finds herself back in the town she left all those years ago. And when she comes face to face with the handsome and caring Danny, she finds herself happy to be back.

Just as in the second book in this series, I felt like everything in this book moved very fast. And it honestly made this read a little difficult for me. One moment Skylar is on the run from her abusive boyfriend, and the next day she is making out with Danny, a guy she hasn’t seen in years. I just felt like it didn’t really fitted the story. I mean, most times someone who is in an abusive relationship needs a little break after that. But Skylar seems to fall in love again rather fast. Which isn’t impossible I guess, but it just didn’t really work for me.

The romance between Danny and Skylar was still pretty sweet, if I made myself forget about how fast things moved. I liked how Danny took care of Skylar, and the way they connected with each other after all these years. But there fast moving relationship was definitely a little strange if you ask me. I mean, on the run from an abusive relationship and the next day your kissing another guy. That just doesn’t sound right to me.

The suspense was definitely the best part about this read I think. It kept me on the edge of my seat wanting to read more and more. And it was also pretty fun to read little bits about the characters I read about in the previous books.

Overall, this book wasn’t really for me. But the suspense and the romance made up for it so it was still a 3 star read I think.

A Cowboy Like You by Donna grant is the 4 the book in her Heart of Texas series but can be thoroughly enjoyed as a stand alone. I completely devoured this wonderful cowboy romance !

"Having you back makes me crave you with a ferocity that should frighten you."

Sheriff Danny Oldman lives a lonely life even though he's surrounded by friends who care . Fate lands his old high school crush into his life just when he was reminiscing over her. Skylar is trying to run from her abusive boyfriend and Danny happens to be in the right place at the right time when she needs help the most. Now she has to find away to escape her ex's clutches for once and for all, which isn't going to be easy given his family's wealthy status. Both Danny and Skylar had been harboring secret crushes back in high school and even though the timing isn't the greatest Skylar isn't going to let go of the chance to be with Danny. He makes her feel safe and at peace like she's never had before, hopefully her ex doesn't destroy their chance of having a future.

"She'd never felt need so strong, a hunger so deep that it clawed up through her soul."

I was immediately smitten with Danny. He is so kind, caring and in the beginning his sadness just bleeds from the pages and you want to give him a big hug. Skylar is brave and resilient and I'm not sure I would have made it through her ordeal as mentally stable. Together they are simply sweet and just fit. However, even though they know each other from high school, they haven't seen each other in over 10 years at least which made their romance pace a bit insta lovey.

Overall, I highly enjoyed this cowboy romance. A Cowboy Like You is a story filled with love, friends, a little high stakes action, and a touch of the holiday season to round it out. I look forward to reading for Donna Grant books in the future.

This book had a little bit of everything. It was a sweet, small-town, second chance romance but there was also an element of drama & suspense that made it hard to put the book down. Even though it was a bit predictable, I found myself devouring the book until I could see the bad guy get his just desserts and Danny & Skylar get their happy ever after.

This is absolutely a book, and series worth picking up!!
