Swoon-worthy romance set in Ireland

I absolutely loved this sweet and spicy romance. Antonia goes on her honeymoon alone after breaking up with her fiance. She finds companionship in Irish literature professor Aiden. But should she stay or return to Chicago? I only wish I had read this sooner. So good!

The Write Escape is a journey of self discovery, healing and love. The main characters Antonia and Aiden are each carrying emotional baggage and aren't looking but still find each other. I enjoyed their journey. It was cute, sweet and sensual. I'm looking forward to reading more of this author's work.

Once again, I find myself reading a romance novel (what has happened to me?? Who am I?? Did grad school do this to me?) but it’s still NOT WHAT I WANT

Here for the Irish guy in the countryside, here for an interracial romance, not here for the poor writing (I’m sorry, I really do hate being so critical!)

Why, oh why, can’t my poor aggrieved grad school brain get itself a romance novel that shuts it off without being overly critical whilst reading? When, oh when, will my brain be appeased with a well written romance with characters that actually make good decisions for themselves in their lives?? also I realize the irony of me critiquing writing whilst not writing well myself at this moment, but I am a reader and this is my job (also it’s midnight, I worked today, and wrote a research paper when I got home)

This book will tick boxes for many readers, but this isn’t my usual fare - if you like romances, Irish or interracial, this will probably work just fine for you!

Thanks to Netgalley and to the publisher for hooking me up with this in exchange for an honest review, you’re the tops!

Charish Reid is fast becoming a favorite author and auto-buy for me. I have never been disappointed with her stories, and this makes it a solid 3/3 I've read. This was another delightful funny and sweet romance, about finding love in and at the most unlikeliest of places. I loved the slow burn between Aiden and Antonia. It was clear the attraction was there, but they built up an easy friendship before moving into romance.

I also enjoyed the dual perspective and how both realized that they didn't need to live their lives for anyone but themselves. They both admitted when they made mistakes and called each other when they fumbled. This helped to set the stage to show how strong their relationship would be in the future since you need accountability in your romantic partners.

The parallels to the Irish and African American, or Black American if your prefer, experience was also well thought out. In some novels, those are just tossed in casually to take up paper space. But it was obvious that the author took a lot of time into researching that to make sure it was a logical connection and enough of one that a university level paper could have been written on it.

Plus, just the idea of being in Ireland? It's a dream trip of mine so I hope to get there one day soon. Highly recommend because you'll fall in love with Toni, Aiden, and Ireland all in one fell swoop.

I was so excited to read The Write Escape that I came out of a two-year Netgalley retirement to request the ARC. I could NOT resist a romance set in Ireland, especially an interracial romance written by a black author. (As you might guess, lots of the Irish books I found as I researched for my own trip there were by and about white people.) And there's so much good book nerdery going on--the heroine is an editor turned novelist, and the hero is an English professor. They have a fun, banter-y chemistry that I loved. There is flirting in a grocery store! And cozy drinks in a pub! And friendly Irish people! Anyway, it’s out now and I highly recommend it.

The Write Escape is about publishing professional Antonia whose life is upturned when she discovers her fiance is cheating on her. She breaks off the engagement and cancels the wedding, but she goes on the honeymoon anyway. There, she meets Aiden and he's charming and adorable, and he encourages her with her writing. As a reader who is also a writer, I felt so giddy over this plot. I loved how Aiden's sexiness came off as something soft and endearing. He is the kind of hero who will give you soft vibes. Antonia is at a point in her life where she needs to figure out the next step.

I picked up The Write Escape because I heard many great things about it by bloggers and I personally love Carina's contemporary romance releases. Also, Charish Reid gives you so many tender, heartfelt moments that will make your heart turn to goo.

I began reading this at a very difficult time in my life and it worked to keep me occupied.
