Theres a trend in these books. Our group of powerful kids are learning fast, grow a little bit as people (not just weapons), and are involved/centers of potential world changing events. But its fast(ish) paced, the magic is interesting and a little different.

Outstanding follow up to Mage Errant #1. The change of setting really helps flesh out the world and introduces a ton of new elements to freshen up the story. If you felt the first was a bit too "Harry Potter" this one doesn't feel that way at all.

A bit gross

I love how the main characters continue to grow and develop.

I’m only giving 4 stars, because seasickness doesn’t add to the story at all and honestly detracts from it. I skimmed those entire pages because GROSS!!

If I say any more, there will be spoilers, and I prefer to keep this spoiler free, but I will say that I loved (and hated) the surprise twist and I can’t wait to read what happens next.

A solid follow-up to the first book, featuring slightly improved writing and a good dose of action.

This series is young adult and not ashamed of it, and thus is a little out of my wheelhouse. It's got the usual trappings; teenaged protagonists that are uncommonly competent, a hint of cringy romance, and a fast=paced easy to follow plot. Nothing here is offensive, and it's definitely a page-turner. I like the characters, despite them being pretty undeveloped, and Alustin especially is fun, despite him being a sort of discount Eithan from Will Wight's Cradle.

This series isn't anywhere near the top of my to-read list, but it's a fun little romp and I plan on getting back to it eventually.
