Look did the plot make logical sense? Nope.
Were the characters deeply developed? Nope.
Did the writing have any nuance … like at all? Nope.
But was it exactly what i thought it would be? Yep.
A fun fast paced action filled story. Not my usual genre so a fun change of pace.

Fun in theory and was for about 60 pages. I think it was the part where West is climbing up a ladder and avoids being killed from a falling boulder by blasting it away with a grenade launcher. This was not too long after his pet falcon saved his life by grabbing a falling torch.
I was in the mood to read something mindless and over the top with ridiculous action sequences. However, this book is like being transported to the 90s and reading the fan fiction of a kid in your elementary school class who is obsessed with side scrolling video games, draws out their own interpretations of maps and levels, and then fast forward to high school and they’re still at it.
I really respect the level of dedication to nerdy stuff like that and it’s a culture that I enjoy sometimes, but this just wasn’t it.

I love an adventure but the writing was too cheesy for me. Lots of exclamation points.

I liken Matthew Riley's writing style to fast food. Super fast paced and easy to gobble up in days or hours! This was a good and interesting book, however the reduction in details that started about 2/3 of the way in was a bit disappointing. Some of the most exciting parts are now merely mentioned in passing. Would have loved to see each step described as it was at the beginning. Once again, all the facts got me learn alot along the way!
Fast-paced, cinematic, and super pulpy, but it also doesn't want readers thinking too hard about it. I had lots of questions that the book wasn't interested in answering.
I finally gave up when the heroes decided to put away their SCUBA tanks and avoid an easy swim up a waterway, choosing instead a crumbling, trap-laden path that paralleled it. And this was right after they stood on a clifftop and watched an enemy plane circle and disperse paratroopers, then waited until the paratroopers actually landed before scrambling to beat the bad guys to a secret entrance that the bad guys wouldn't have known about if the good guys weren't there to lead them right to it.
I haven't given up on Reilly completely. He has at least one other series that I'm interested in. But Jack West Jr might not be for me.

Every single one of these "wonders of the ancient world" thrillers are exactly the same, but I suppose this one was more entertaining than most. I picked it up at the grocery store in a moment of weakness because buying things makes me feel better.
