I’m rereading the series for the first time in ages, and I loved The Faceless Ones, especially since I love the mystery of the serial killer they have to find. Felt like there were just too many characters to remember though, I keep getting the names of certain characters and its lore mixed up, I feel like by book 3 this series needed an encyclopaedia lol, and I didn’t want to use the wiki out of fear I’d get spoilers. However most of the characters are memorable (ghastly and tanith my beloved), and Skulduggery and Valkyrie are incredible protagonists as always, and it is just a fun read throughout the whole thing. Even the twist villain is written perfectly.
Dont read the ending in public because you will loudly go “NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!”
I hate that stupid cop though his dumb room temperature iq-ahh putting a (kinda) serial killer and a kid in the same prison cell I hope he dies in a future book

I'm pretty sure reading this book as a very young teen is what set me up to later become both a goth and an absolute fanatic for Lovecraft fiction. I am still both of those things, and the book holds up, so well done.
Rating: 4.5/5
CWs: The series has more violence than what's typical of middle grade/early YA, including use of firearms. The story does get a but darker than book 1 and 2, with secondary characters dying, or getting life-threatening injuries.
The third part in the Skulduggery Pleasant series has Skulduggery and Valkyrie uncover the deeper mystery behind the last book's villainous plot and the shadowy organisation behind it - the Diablerie. The series has always been darker than other books for the same age group but the Faceless Ones, to me, feels like the last book in it that reads like pure middle grade (note: the later books can be read by middle grade audiences but they aren't the sole audience). The story has more or less the same strengths as its predecessor, though I have to admit the ending was a bit clumsy

(-)
- Zu viele Antagonisten, die eher Charakterlos sind
