Fool's Fate is the masterful capstone not only of my favorite Hobb trilogy so far, but of the entire Realm of the Elderlings saga up to this point. There is so much celebration in this send-off that it makes every character's sacrifices and misery feel worthwhile. As always Hobb delivers beautiful functional prose, compelling and realistic character development, and an epic adventure delivered at a pace both thoughtful and exciting. These 2,000+ pages flew by in no time at all and still left me hungry for more.

April 2018-Amazing.This left me wanting the next book. It was action packed and just the perfect semi-conclusion to the current story. As ever, it broke my heart at several points. I just love Fitz and The Fool.

My heart HURTS. Damn.
Also, everyone in this book except Fitz and the Fool are actually terrible. Didn’t really care for the ending, but I wasn’t all that surprised by how Hobb wrapped things up for Fitz.

I put off reading this for months and months because I knew it would hurt me, and what can I say? Robin Hobb exceeded my expectations in that she hurt me dreadfully, and I must be a masochist because I read in every spare moment I had.

The Fitz and the Fool trilogy has been an epic continuation of the Farseer Trilogy which introduced an amazing cast of characters and presented the beautiful, verisimililar land of the Six Duchies and Buckkeep. From my first read of Assassins Apprentice, I felt like I’d found a story that appealed to me at a really basic but profound level. I loved the fleshed out, flawed characters, the mysterious magic systems, and the hints of things to come, so carefully and subtly laid out by Hobb. Now I’ve finished Fool’s Fate, my love for this world and these characters has multiplied. I honestly couldn’t sleep last night because I was feeling so melancholic over poor old Fitz and the trials he went through all his life. What have you done, Hobb?? Don’t make me empathize, please!

I’ve read reviews stating that Robin Hobb books are often overly long and I have to agree, yes, they are very long, and often very slow to start. But you know what? I don’t give a shit. I love reading 50 pages of Fitz looking after Thick on a boat, because she writes so beautifully and it’s so damn readable, and it’s just layer upon layer of character development and introspection. I can tell you as well that I MISSED the slow journey to Asklevjal, because once our characters arrived there... hoo boy. I made the choice to read this book on holiday, and cried on the beach, on a bus, on a plane, and in my hotel room at 2am. Some moments genuinely made me feel completely overwhelmed with emotion, so much so that I’m not even going to hint at anything that happens.

Suffice to say, I love this novel, I love this trilogy, I love the Realm of the Elderlings series, and I’m seriously considering getting a Fool themed tattoo.

It's hard to review a book when it's the ninth book in a series that you're obsessed with, especially when you don't want to spoil things, without just reiterating all of your other reviews of the series.

But I love Robin Hobb's writing. Her prose is absolutely beautiful, and she has such a lot of things to do about the nature of loneliness and connectedness.  I don't know if I loved the epilogue, but I didn't hate it, and I suppose, in a way, I'm happy for it. I was a little disappointed that I was somewhat spoiled for this story due to the existence of the final trilogy in The Realm of the Elderlings, but not by too much.

Also, wow, I bawled so many times during this book.
