I just love how well written the Fool is. I know so little of him and so little is said out loud of how he feels or thinks, but when he is hurting emotionally you hurt for him too. It's so easy to understand him while not having a clue about what's going on through his mind.

As for Fitz, I feel for him. He never seems to find the right moment to do something or the right action to take, and everyone seems to blame it all on him, as if everyone else were perfect. Really, people. I'm not justifying any of his actions (though many are justifiable), but c'mon! You wouldn't do better were you in his place. So, shut up and understand a man.

Chade. Chade. Chade I wanted to strangle from the beginning to the end of the trilogy. Such a selfish prick. He loves hiding behind the "For the good of the Farseer reign" banner, but anything and everything he does seems to be for his self interest. Any benefit to the Farseers in general is a byproduct of his gain somehow. I'm glad that in the end Fitz managed to slowly wriggle power from Chade's hands to pass it on to Dutiful. Kudos. For any good intention Chade had, he never had any qualms at all at spending Fitz in the process.

Happy ending. Yay! That's something Hobb doesn't fail to deliver, and well deserved for us readers who've endured all the pain of seeing your beloved characters suffer 9/10 of the saga until you get to the resolution.

It is always sad to come to the end of a trilogy. To say goodbye to favourite characters. Robin HObb did a good job of wrapping up the story of FitzChivalry. There has been room left open for other story lines that I hope she takes up in further books.

I could not put this book down in the last half. I read it on a Kindle, and I didn't know where I was in the book (for some reason it stopped showing me how far I've read). So I just stayed up almost all night a couple nights in a row. I just kept thinking it was close to being over, because just thread after thread was being finished.

Spoiler The final part of the fool's story was SO satisfying! For some reason I had forgotten that the next trilogy is called "The Fitz and the Fool", so I really did believe he would die (and then did in fact die for good) as I was reading. I'm so happy that I'd forgotten. It was a joy to experience it along with Fitz and Fool.

The writing in these books does not flag in the least. I'm one of those folks for whom a single typo or a single comment out of character or time period can ruin the whole book for me - I'm probably 90,000 pages into this author's work and I haven't found one yet (90K may be an exaggeration...).

When this book was not in my hands, I was thinking about it.
