I'm So Meta Even This Assessment.

This storyline effectively killed my interest in Fables, and I have not returned to the series since. I hate everything about The Literals and what it implies for the Fables storyline. Before, fairytales and legends were part of this universe -- now abstract ideas like revision and the concept of a Western are also actual people? It was the dumbest thing that could have happened. This is the clearest example that Willingham has lost all sense of direction without the set-up of The Adversary.

On top of that, The Literals are just too powerful. From now on, the story is tainted by the fact that we can at any time be subject to the whims of such a lame cast of characters. I hate that they were added into the mythos.

Jack is a horrific jerk, and "Kevin Thorne" is boring, as are the Literals, in my opinion. I was not thrilled with this volume. It was nice to see girls kicking ass, though.

If you’re reading this because you’re reading the Fables series, just read the bits that take place on the Farm - and you could probably do without those as well. Just skip over to “Witches.”

I'm a big fan of Willingham's Fables series but this was a low point for me. Not sure if it was the writing influence from the other spin-off titles but is created a dish that was non-edible for me. While there were rare moments of lucidity, they didn't last long. This 13th volume is completely skippable, IMO.

When I was in writing school, my teachers always said the best way to get past writer's block, was to write straight through it. It was never prescribed as something for us to actually publish or give to our readers. This book, is the physical embodiment of someone writing their way through their writer's block,...and then making loyal fans read it.

I was not pleased at all with this particular entry to the Fables universe. It rambled on and on about nothing for seemingly ever, and I just couldn't make myself care. Aside from some kickass "new" characters, and some pretty funny Bigby moments, I could have passed on this one.

I really wanted to like this...but no...

They phoned this one in...luckily Witches makes up for it though...

Interesting, as always, but this volume had too much Jack of Fables for my taste. The stories from the Fableverse are much better, and the meta-nonsense, while amusing, gets tiring after awhile.

Okay so originally I was going to give this a single star because this is honestly the worst volume of Fables I've ever read. However, it's highly imaginative and I thought the last third of the book had a strange sort of charm.

The trade I have to rank the same as Trade #1. I was so disinterested in this crossover all together, that the further i pushed myself, dragging feet through it, it almost felt the worst it got. Things that made it livable:

1. Blue

2. The Page Sister's

3. The Literary Tropes

4. The culmination of the Little Girl gag
