Charmante, amüsante und auch traurige Geschichten aus einer ungewöhnlichen Perspektive.

In a way this is a collection of vignettes, quick snapshots of the interactions between a chiropodist and her clients.

A relationship that is seldom talked about, often taken for granted.

Oskamp shows the reader the ordinary challenges of life and aging, at the same time reminds us how remarkable it all is, all while making us laugh.

Highly recommended

Sweet. Oskamp imbues each character with an unvarnished humanity that will make you remember what it is to be happy to be alive, to be loved, to be part of a community, and to have more than a few years left ahead of you.

This was such a lovely audiobook to listen to while on my walks. There is no plot as such, more the narrator reminiscing on customers she has served in the past while working in a nail salon. I don’t think I would have enjoyed it as much if I hadn’t worked in retail/customer service though. This one is for people in those jobs, especially if they want to read something that makes them feel seen.

This was a quick and interesting read. Don’t really have any extravagant thoughts which feels silly given how acclaimed it is but oh well

The description of this as an ethnographic project really grabbed me but the politics of the author really let it down. Sexual harassment of medical staff isn’t endearing because it’s done by an old dude, super regressive understandings of gender dynamics in people’s relationships and calling pre-teen girls Lolitas is absolutely disgusting.
