I like Izzy. She so wants to be a normal teenager but that is rather difficult considering that she comes from a long line of monster hunters. She has never had the opportunity to go to school or make friends her own age. So when she has to attend a high school so that she can discover the ghost that is behind the hauntings, it is a whole new world to her.
I found that SCHOOL SPIRITS was a fun book to read even though the subject matter of the ghost out for revenge is dark in a fun kind of way. The main character Izzy and her sidekicks are easy to relate too even though we really don't get a chance to really get to know any of them with the exception on Izzy.
I think that this book would be perfect for younger teenage girls as it does explore friendships, the world of high school, and the beginnings of a relationship with Dex. While there is violence, it isn't the sort that should bother a younger reader because it is caused by the ghost. I rate this book a 3.8.
*** I received this book at no charge from NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions expressed within are my own.

This was a fairly fun and easy read.
Like the Hex Hall series, this book took a long time to get rolling, with the characters and scene/plot being set for a long time - about 70‰ of the book in this case - before the story really took off.
It felt like the publisher asked to author to write a spinoff series that would be successful and make money. It came off as a very average middle school book, not bad but just like any other series. It didn't feel like the author was excited about the work, and it certainly bore no resemblance to the Hex Hall series in anything aside from character names and a rough plot back-story.

Even though I kept hoping for a tiny peak at Sophie and Archer and that didn't happen, I really loved this. Izzy turned out to be a pretty good character and I liked her way of handling situations. Amazing. I loved that she managed to dislocated some boys shoulder and yet doesn't know how to date. I like that she is so tough and yet still tries to help and almost against her better judgment makes friends with some civilians. Really hope there is more to this series.
Interesting and intriguing. I can't wait to see how the rest of the series goes.
I really like this author! even this spin off series was cute! maybe not as funny but the plot went really smooth
Izzy Brannick grew up fighting monsters, it's all she's ever known. Home-schooled with her sister Finn Izzy can't even imagine a regular kind of life. Brannicks are warriors and there's no other choice, even if Izzy, her mom and Finn are the last three Brannicks left. When Finn disappears, Izzy's mom puts all her energy into finding Finn and sends Izzy on her first solo mission: dealing with a violent ghost. Unfortunately for Izzy that means she'll have to brave something truly terrifying - high school.
I'm a big fan of Rachel Hawkins Hex Hall series, and I enjoy her writing in general. School Spirits is a spin off from Hex Hall and it delivers just as much action, humor and just as many intriguing characters. This is a fun, fast read that left me wishing for a much longer book. Or a sequel waiting on my shelf already.

This was a nice light read- or rather listen. I'm not really much for light-hearted supernatural, but I mostly enjoyed this one. My only quibble is when the author tried to get too serious towards the end. Maybe there was no way around it b/c of the direction the plot was moving, but it seemed to clash with the rest of the book.
