It's probably for the best this never became a series because I for sure would have ended up shipping Izzy and Torin

Happened to walk by this at the library and was so excited to see another one by Rachel Hawkins. It's a spinoff, following the cousin of the Hex Hall protagonist. I enjoyed the Hex Hall books and this was just as good. Maybe even better. I laughed out loud several times and I can't think of a single character that I didn't like. Looking forward to more in this series!

This story would have made a great start to a spin off series of Hex Hall. Unfortunately the author has no plans to extend the series. The loose ends made it lose a star for me.

Not as great as I found [b:Hex Hall|5287473|Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1)|Rachel Hawkins|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1368393885s/5287473.jpg|5354884] to be, but still a pretty amazing read. I always find spin-offs a bit jarring, but this one could stand on it's own. There are a few storylines left (most likely) deliberately vague, no doubt they will be explored in the remainder of the series, but I did find myself wondering if I had missed something in other books. Finley's disappearance has me really wondering. Plus side is that Hawkins' fun writing style has not slipped a bit and if you loved Sophie's witty personality Izzy is gearing up to be just as awesome. So on that note, if you enjoyed Hex Hall I completely recommend picking up School Spirits and giving it a go because that writing style is so addictive I imagine you find yourself constantly craving more and School Spirits completely delivers.

a fun spin-off of the hex hall series. i immediately enjoyed that it was the opposite premise of the original series, as well as izzy's attempts to find out what "real" teenagers do. the last third of the book left me wanting more though - the resolution to the ghost story was just silly and how every wrapped up so nicely didn't fit with the arc i imagined for izzy as i began the book. still, i enjoy hawkins' writing and will read the next one.

I couldn't have guessed who was the result of causing the ghostly shenanigans. This book was fun just like the Hex Hall series. Izzy was awesome, I loved seeing her experience high school and friends for the first time. And Dex! I love Dex! Just from his first lines I knew I'd fallen for another fictional character. He was so funny and had me smiling the whole time.
