the book was enjoyable, I liked the characters and the storyline but to me it seemed like the story was rushed and there should have been more of it. Or maybe it's just me. reader anyway and I recommend hex hall x
I received a eARC through Netgalley.com, so this is my review:
Rachel Hawkins has done it again. Moving from the Hex Halls series, she's expanded the world of the Prodigium. In this case, we're introduced, one again, to Izzy Brannick. One of the last of a long line of "monster" hunters, Izzy is learning what it means to carry the title, who she can trust, and how to balance a normal life. This was a fun read. I liked that Hawkins expanded her Hex Hall world and has left the door open for more supernatural tales. The first of a new series sets the fast pace and tone of more fun, more supernatural, and some interesting surprises. I'm looking forward to seeing Izzy, Dex, and this series grow.

Compared to Hex Hall, School Spirits didn't measure up to the same standards. Normal high school does not measure up to crazy paranormal boarding schools. This book kept me smiling and laughing (or giggling?) constantly. I personally liked Sophie better. I read this book hoping Sophie would be in it. Dexter doesn't measure up to Archer either. The ending seemed unrealistic to me, especially considering the time when they weren't happy with Sophie's dad crashing at their house. Okay, I should stop comparing. >.< I think, though, if I read School Spirits before Hex Hall, I might have liked it better.
Is there going to be a sequel? This series seems to be unfinished, so I'm guessing there is, with the whole Finley disappearing thing. And I do get to see another appearance of Sophie, right?
***
Edit: Seems like there is no sequel. :/ Well, I'll be off scouring Wattpad or the author's website or something like that to see the future of the Brannik family...

Izzy hunts monsters. She and her mother are the last two Brannicks, monster hunters of yore (cross that one off my bucket list of words to use before I die). After nearly getting turned by a second rate vampire, her mother decides they need a break and they move to Mississippi for what should be a simple assignment of helping a ghost move to the other side.
But Izzy soon discovers the ghost has a link to our world which will make it all but impossible to banish her without knowing who called her.
School Spirits was pretty good fun in a Buffy the Vampire Slayer kind of way. When it stuck to that trope it worked, the few times it deviated from that path it kind of lost its way. I'm not sure if this is going to be a series, but if it is Romy definitely needs to be in it. The women in this book are the shining stars. The men are really just window dressing.

Big questions were left unanswered, just like in the Hex Hall-trilogy. Can't be that mad tho because these books are just so enjoyable to read.
More like 3.5-3.75 stars, fun sweet read. Loved the characters, I wanted more scary creepy things though.
I LOVED LOVED LOVED THIS BOOK!
True, I am a SERIOUS fan of Hex Hall, but without a doubt Rachel Hawkins KNOCKED this book out of the park. I thought the characters were fantastic, the plot concise and it felt real. Although the book is a tad smaller than I wish, the author used every page to her advantage. While there are definitely reflections of Sophie in Izzy, Izzy is her own unique and passionate character.
