This was a cute story about Travis and Drew, whom I first encountered in this author's book [b:Astounding!|25668553|Astounding!|Kim Fielding|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1433484222s/25668553.jpg|45492095] and her Bones series. I enjoyed getting to know both Drew and Travis, even though it was a bit weird to have all the conversation one sided.
Drew used to be a novelist, until a head injury from a car accident left him unable to speak or write. I cannot imagine what that must be like.
Travis is a man who is somewhat adrift in his life. He lost an eye several years ago and has had trouble finding dependable work. His self confidence is fairly low, but he figures he's ok as long as he can pay his bills.
I enjoyed the interactions between Travis and Drew , but one thing I would have preferred was on page sex, which is no where present in this book. All the sex is fade to black or completely off page. That really did take away some of my enjoyment of the story, because we don't really see their intimacy and their connection to each other is less tangible. But otherwise, Speechless is an enjoyable story.

A cute short story about two guys with disabilities who fall in love. Travis meets Drew who can't speak or write. I really liked how Travis got used to communicating with Drew and that he doesn't have a problem with it. There moments together were just so adorable. Everything is fine until Travis has to move because of his job and he goes, leaving Drew. I don't want to say anymore and spoil it but I enjoyed it. I think the author could of explained a little more about what Aphasia meant. All I knew was Drew got into an accident and now he can't read or write.
A lovely story that focuses on human emotion.
I loved how Travis and Drew came together, and how they slowly built on their feelings. I loved that these characters felt real. I really loved how even without Drew speaking, or having as much input to this story as Travis, I still felt like I knew him.
A wonderfully uplifting story, wish it could have been longer.
It did make me nostalgic to re read Dabeagle’s free on line story with a similar theme, for those interested it can be found here

emotional
A sweet and cozy story about two men who who live very normal lives and fall in love organically. I devoured it + the sequel in one afternoon.
Aww, that was super sweet, and not in a sappy cheesy way (ok maybe that last bit at the very end was a little sappy but I liked it anyway). I love how Drew's inability to speak was handled, and enjoyed seeing how they formed a strong relationship despite that handicap. I did feel that the rest of the time they spent together was rushed with too much telling, which is inevitable in a short book that covers about a year of time. I was also disappointed by what my friend likes to call Nora Roberts sex scenes, where it's pretty much mentioned in passing. I like to get a feel for the passion and love between couples when they finally get together, so it felt like a key element was missing. I did, however, really enjoy the rest of it. I felt . It began and ended well, so I'm glad I read it.
Spoiler
I thought the skinhead bully scene seemed a bit contrived and somewhat unnecessary to the story.Spoiler
their sense of helplessness and loss when Travis left, and their joy when he finally gained some sense and came back
Adorable and sweet romance.
I loved the chemistry between Travis and Drew. The ending was too rushed and I didn't enjoy that so much.

Another beautiful story by Kim Fielding with interesting, believable characters. The only bad thing about is that it is way too short ;-) Not really, everything makes sense and there is enough time for the story to develop - but I'm greedy, I always want to read more if I like the characters.
I don't know what else to say without giving too much of the story away, the description of the book tells you everything you need to know in advance.
And if you like M/M romance and haven't read anything by Kim Fielding yet, start now. She really is a great writer and so far I loved every single story she has written

This book was very short. There was no figurative language or anything of that nature. Entire days only had sentences devoted to them, and the author did not really make me feel the connection between the two main characters.
I love the author, but this book was a miss.

3.5 Stars
While I really liked this story, I kind of wanted more of a backstory from both MC's. I think I am kind of addicted to dual POV's because I REALLY wanted inside Drew's head.
I loved how Travis was ordinary. He didn't have a white collar job, he wasn't wealthy, he didn't drive the best cars, etc. He was Travis and I loved him! He didn't complain he just did what he had to do to get by. But, on his way home from work, he sees the same guy sitting on the steps in front of a house playing guitar. He finally decides to stop one day and finds out that the guy's name is Drew and he has aphasia.
Drew was in an accident that has left him with aphasia, which means he has the inability to use language, so he can't read or write. He can understand everything, but just can't communicate back. Somehow though, Travis understands Drew and they communicate better than 2 people who can talk.
Overall, great short :)

Wow, so this is a really beautiful love story. Short but very rich with small amusing parts and more depth than many long books can generate.
Also, it's a very different story than anything else I've read. I'm a little sad that there isn't more of Travis and Drew. I don't think I'd get bored following them through their lives.
Well, and I love the cat.
Drew still pretended not to notice him, but he moved his hand over and began stroking right behind Elwood’s ears. “Elwood is an ungrateful slut,” Travis observed. Drew chuckled and rubbed gently behind Travis’s ear too.
