Bit of a hefty read but informative. Gets really into the history and talks about events that many people might not know. The author really did her research.

After 4 years dedicated to my degree in this subject, it was a great experience to have a comprehensive yet consolidated account of the history I’d dedicated my college career to. Its readability makes it a great reference for those who have studied the topic and those who are coming to it for the first time alike.

3.6

Truly phenomenal. I'm horrified at how little I knew, and how much there still is to learn. I'll be buying a physical copy of this book to reread for sure.

Comprehensive history of lgbtq activism in America. Clear and very well written. Highly recommended for anyone who want to learn about the struggle to achive equal rights and justice for the lgbtq in the US.

A thorough, well-researched, and well-written book. It is a slow read, owing to its length, depth, and often difficult content, but going at your own pace helps reflect on that history and its implications. This was published in the U.S. the same year same-sex marriage was legalized throughout the country, and it's wild to see how much has changed in some ways, and how little has has changed in others.

Despite being such a brick, I still found myself occasionally wishing a passage gave more context, and other times would get stuck on unclear wording. It helps to be at least a little familiar with the topics then, but either way, it makes for a good foundational text.
