Maybe my least favorite book I’ve ever read
See Roger Ebert’s review of the movie adaptation of Needful Things, I basically agree with his criticisms. It’s not funny, not scary, not really anything but mean spirited. Stephen King is sort of known for not sticking the landing and this book maybe the best example of that. I kept waiting for something to make this book worthwhile, worthy of being the “last Castle Rock” story and that thing just never came. If this was the only King I’d ever read, I’d highly recommend not reading his work, but thankfully the guys created masterpieces. This just didn’t work for me at all.

Uno de los puntos realmente buenos es ese personaje villano Leland tan bien construidos que acaba realizando King. Se le da muy bien construir villanos, aja, porque parece que todos están basados en la maldad y un poco en lo "mágico", en lo misterioso, en lo que como no sabemos de donde viene pues es muy atrayente. Me gusta mucho en este caso que es alguien que aprovecha los deseos de la gente para favorecerse y conseguir lo que quiere. Aunque es cierto que el tema concreto que busca me pareció un poco flojo porque en si solo quería crear el caos, o eso note yo.
Otra de las cosas que me parecen muy interesante de la novela es el amplio elenco de personajes que podemos encontrar en la novela. King hay veces que se vuelve muy loco y le encanta hacer historias muy corales para destacar muchas historias, muchos problemas, muchas relaciones entre ellos, mucho de todo. Lo que pasa es que este se convierte en un gran problema durante la novela ya que hay gente que puede acabar perdiéndose con los personajes o con las tramas. Y lo entendería porque al estar un poco mentalmente este mes cansada con tantas lecturas, teniendo que leerlo rápido porque tenía que hacer la reunión del club que se ha atrasado por mi, y muchas cosas más me ha pasado incluso a mi que estoy acostumbrada a los libro con tanto personajes. Lo bueno es que creo que King lo sabía y siempre que volvía a una escena de algún momento te decía alguna frase tipo "y Rusk que seguía dándole vueltas a la noche que mancho las sábanas de la señorita tal". Vamos que nos recuerda todo el rato que persona es, que elemento compro en la tienda de Cosas necesarias y a quien fastidia y como.
Me ha gustado mucho los diferentes guiños que ha hecho King en este libro.
¿Lo releería? seguramente si lo haré para descubrir más de Graunt si King mete algo más de él en la torre oscura o por algún libro más.
¿Recomendar? bueno si quieres un libro muy coral con un buen malo.

Wow! This was one of my favorite of King's novels so far! I could not put this book down! I just kept reading chapter after chapter. So many fascinating characters that kept getting deeper and darker with every page turn. The evil character, Leland Gaunt, is the perfect villian, hiding the disgusting truth with the perfect curtain of charm and charisma.
The book shows the dangers of pride, temptation, and seeing your sin with rose colored glasses. We all see life how we want to at times instead of what it truly is. Gaunt reels in customers to his nifty shop of "expensive" wares called Needful Things which attracts the gossip of all the spectators of Castle Rock. One by one, he finds the deep desires of his customers and has them each play a seemingly meaningless tricks on others in town. Fueling the flames of kindling disputes, the town begins to spiral out of control fast.
Such a wonderful way to see that our own desires blind us to the reality and relationships which surround us, building up to cause us to do terrible, terrible things we never thought possible of any human being.
