I've let this sit on my Kindle for well over 2 months, thinking it was actually a book. Yeah, um, it's not. It's a novella, and it took me only 1 hour to read it.
I liked the storyline, because reading about Spitfire pilots in WWII is interesting to me (I'm an unusual woman in that way), and the story itself was interesting. But I had to strain my brain a bit to try and connect the dots to figure out how this tied in with the real Outlander story. I know that the main characters here, Jerry and Dolly, are Roger's parents -- but I couldn't put together some of the rest of the timeline, and what was happening in the Claire/Jamie timeline, and especially who the two night-wanderers were at the end who 'helped' Jerry. I assume they were Roger (as his older self, traveled backward) and maybe young Iain, but I'm not sure. I guess it's been way too long since I've read the relevant books in the Outlander series, which isn't any wonder, with how long it takes Gabaldon to turn out a book :-/
Anyhow -- this was a very quick, fun read. At the end of the day, I enjoy Gabaldon's writing style, and this is no exception.

if i had a nickel every time frank sends somebody back in time i would have two nickels... which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice
Interested peek into Roger's story
A quick look into Roger's family history. Interesting and heartbreakingly sad how everything tied together. A bout rushed but still a must for Outlander fans.

Such a bittersweet story! This novella tells what really happened to Roger MacKenzie's parents, specifically his father, during WWII. It's beautiful and heartbreaking all at once to know...and yet to realize that Roger will never fully know the truth.
For readers' advisors: story and setting doorways, primarily. A little sexual content and bad language.
