I LOVED THIS BOOK! And this is from someone who almost never picks up books based around war. But this one was so incredibly well done. She painted such a clear picture of what it could have been like to be there, and the challenges coming home. And the perfect amount of romance imo. Enough that it’s interesting and moves the story along, but it’s not the ONLY thing going on. Also appreciate the focus on mental health and how much more aware of it we are as a society now.

Prefacing this review by acknowledging the bias I have in loving Kristin Hannah’s work— she could write my parking ticket and I’d love every word of it.
With that aside, this is one of the best novels I’ve read to date. Illustrating a dark history of a nation that attempted to make the pain and suffering of an entire generation invisible, while simultaneously weaving in the power of love and hope is no easy feat. I’ll be thinking about this story for a long while, and the tear marks on my copy will serve as a good reminder of its impact <3
