Possibly one of the best dystopian books I have read. One of my pet peeves with dystopian books is the half assed attempt at explaining how the world came to be and all the plot holes that go along with that. Auster doesn’t even attempt this so the mystery lives on past the end of the book, continuing the theme of unanswered questions and things being forgotten.
The lack of chapters is such a clever literary tool, forcing us to experience the relentlessness that the characters are going through. It was incredibly immersive and I commend Auster’s talent for making such a dark and depressing story so captivating.

Good but not amazing (by Auster standards), i liked this as a different take on post-apocalyptic fiction, maybe to be read with The Road as the urban version, particularly with the pacing..
