This was actually better than the first and definitely creepier. So far it seems as if all of J.R. Ward's books get better as they go. Definitely a fan.
I enjoyed this book much more than the previous one. There was more explanation into Devina's torture and an epilogue of the couple he saved.
This book continues the story of Jim Heron who is tasked with coming in to a persons life when they're at a crossroads and helping them choose the right path. The decision of these seven people will decide if the souls of everyone on Earth (and those who've passed on) will belong to Heaven or Hell.
I enjoyed the first book in the series, [b:Covet|6289920|Covet (The Fallen Angels, #1)|J.R. Ward|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1275616232s/6289920.jpg|6474277]. I felt like this one wasn't as polished. The romance that built between Isaac and Grier felt like it developed too quickly. I have read many books where the characters fell in love within a couple of days or so of meeting and have liked many of those. This one, just didn't seem right. This one just didn't hold my interest very well. I won't give up on the series though and will continue to read it.

I'm really liking this series and this installment did not disappoint. Sure, Ward uses cheesy and unnecessary analogies, but she sure knows how to weave an exciting tale that always keeps me guessing. While Isaac and Grier's relationship progressed really quickly and seemed very unlikely, I still thought they were great together and somehow they fit perfectly. Plus I was happy to have a heroine that was smart (yet made some dumb choices), beautiful, and a force to be reckoned with, as well as TALL!! Isaac just melted my heart, I know I'm a sap, but the whole moral assassin wanting to start over just strikes a cord with me. And the ending- LOVED it!!
This book was important in showing more about the "game" and insight into Devina and Jim. Can't wait for Jim to f*ck with Devina's head!

Mrs ward does not disappoint! Great sex scenes and engaging plot. I can't seems to put her books down. Read this one in 4 days.

What a twist! Okay, around page 370 or so, I figured out what the twist was. But, at the same time, it was a good one. For most of the book I was like "huh?" What could Isaac's sin be in this one? Well, I was surprised for sure.
Anyways, this was a great second book in the series and although I did like Covet a bit more, I really liked this one. I think I liked Covet more because I found myself more attached to Vin and Marie-Terese. I liked Isaac, but I found that Grier could be annoying sometimes. I liked their happy ending, but I did find that it was a little less believable than the romance between Vin and Marie-Terese. But, it wasn't that far fetched for a romance (kinda-sorta romance) anyways.
A couple spoiler-ish thoughts:
It's still not really clear to me what Matthias' sin was. Wrath/Anger? In the first book, Covet, I wasn't even sure if Vin's sin was Greed or Pride. Sometimes it seemed to be more Pride and shame over his past being poor and his parents and all. But I don't know. That's the one thing that's bugging me about this series. It's not really clear at the end of each book what sin was really being covered. It's just that she (being Ward) came up with this really unique idea and I think it's awesome. But my little OCD mind wants to know which sins I can check off the list! lol
I did know, however, that the book(s) would come around where Jim would have to lose. It's still kind of sad. I saw a bit of remorse in Matthias at the end and in the times we were in his head. But really, if she wants to publish seven books in this series, Devina is going to have to win at least three in order for the last book to be the determining "end-game" if you will. I suppose we'll just have to hope for a happy ending for all the trapped souls in the last book of the series.
I was a bit disappointed as well that there were no BDB sightings. But at the same time, I guess it is realistic since most of this took place in Boston, rather than Caldwell. So they weren't really anywhere near Brotherhood territory. It would have been a little off. I miss them though. *sniff sniff*
Overall, I liked the book. I like that Ward kept us guessing the whole time and in the end, it still wasn't what you would've thought. This series is still very hard to categorize. I'm not even sure if I can call it romance, although there is romance in there. I guess it's more urban fantasy. But I certainly am liking it and I can't wait to see what happens next!

A second review? I think sure think so. Okay so I am halfway through the book so far and I am honestly, more than a little disappointed. It is clear that everything in this series is fast paced but, maybe just a little too fast?
The book takes place (supposedly) about TWO WEEKS after the first novel. I am accustumed to Ward's tight timelines but maybe two weeks is just too short a time period for this novel. Idk it may just be me.
Not that I don't love the plot because lack of interest isn't really the problem. The problem to me is a HUGE lack of main characters. Jim Heron seems nowhere to be found the first half of the book. He makes very few appearences and honestly I wish he was here more because his always know what to do attitude combined with his supernatural help actually makes for more than entertainment but Idk, PLOT DEVELOPMENT!!
I digress though. The fact that there is more of a chance to see more of Devina and Nigel is about as awesome as I guess Ward could make it. Also, on a character note am I the only one getting tired of the repititive dangerous male and tough girl who secretly has been scarred for life pairing? Ward needs to get her act together before the end of the book or Jim isn't going to be the only giving Redemptions. I love Ward's work but sometimes its just hard to sit through the mindless sex scenes while I don't know, there is a fight for GOOD vs EVIL right outside your door. LITERALLY.
I am done with the book and honestly after the halfway point. It is somewhat salvageable. The shocking twist at the end of the series actually seems to work out in favor of evil...which is a twist. I still stand by my earlier rant. The book could have used a lot more help from Jim and too late to apologize is the theme of this horrid tale. Regret seems to be in the air Ward and honestly I hope you can deliver a better pitch in the next book. I think the lack of main characters was too big a flaw and honestly I think I am being too nice by giving this book a three out of five. Honestly I would give it a two and a half if I could.

This was far better than Book 1, but it still just wasn’t that interesting. I find myself wanting more world-building and paranormal elements to these books, and this ended up being a political/special ops thriller more than anything else.
The romance was enjoyable and tense, but I wanted more romance than we got.
For a series about fallen angels, there really just isn’t that much angel content in these, huh? Might carry on with the series by audiobook, but it’s not a priority. This just ain’t BDB, kids. ;__;
