this was a great book, I just loved the ending, it was sad though that they had lost one, but you really couldn't expect them to constantly win, and not have the series become boring. Though loving the catch Jim now has on Devina.

I took a little break between the first book in this series and this one, but the story didn’t. It picks up where Covet left off.
Jim and his helpful companions Adrian and Eddie are back again with a new soul to save. But first Jim is determined to help Isaac, a man who once helped him and worked for the same people who used to employ Jim. It turns out there is a strong possibility that Isaac is the soul Jim needs to save.
This story has a lot of connections to Jim’s old life. Connections he wasn’t even aware of. There is a race against time in both the spirit realm and on earth. Isaac is attempting to run for his life yet he cannot help but be drawn to his pro bono attorney Grier. Jim is in his own battle with Devina and leaves the babysitting of Isaac to Adrian and Eddie for a time.
While this story digs deeper into the overall good vs. evil theme of this series, there are also more insights into what Jim is able to do with his new position and the depths to which Devina will stoop to win.
The thing I liked the most in this story was the romantic connection between Isaac and Grier. Isaac is just so good while believing he’s bad. His heart is so pure and he always does what he believes is right for those around him instead of what is best for him.
I do wish Jim and Isaac would have had more time together and that Isaac would have been let in on a bit more of Jim’s mission. It’s what I expected after how much the couple in the first story were privy to the situation. It was still an engaging story.

Another solid entry in the Fallen Angels series. I liked Isaac and Grier both as characters even if insta-love isn’t my favorite trope. Getting to know Jim more was a nice addition. My only problem with these books has been the pacing. It just takes me forever to get through them and I can’t figure out why because they’re super well written. This one was definitely a quicker story line than the first since most of the world-building and background information came in the first book.
Second in the Fallen Angels urban fantasy series based in upper state New York and set, in this book, in Boston, Massachusetts.
My Take
As interesting and enjoyable as I found Crave, I didn't get that sense of craving the title implies or the intensity of the first novel in the series. It is useful that both sides have a stroke in the win column else there wouldn't be even that bit of tension. I was curious as to whether Isaac would be joining the Merry Men…
The Story
On a wave of victory from his triumph in winning a soul for the good guys in Covet, 1, Jim, Adrian, and Eddie set up a spell to ensnare Matthias using Jim's body before they fly to Boston to find an ex-XOps comrade under sentence of death…from Matthias.
The trio is dismayed to find Isaac in jail…a much too obvious target for XOps agents with too many complications: Matthias' second-in-command has also found him and Isaac will not be separated from his lady lawyer torn between his intense attraction to her, his need to pay her back, and an overpowering need to protect her.
Jim is positive that Isaac is his next target — he must save Isaac's soul or lose it to Devina, a demon in enticing guise.
The Characters
Isaac is stupidly using his own name to engage in underground fighting making it too easy for the agency to find him. When he's arrested, his pro bono counsel turns out to be Grier Childe, a lady in every sense of the word and the daughter of another member of XOps. A tool Matthias will use to keep her father in line.
We learn more about what troubles Adrian as well as the sexual acts he will engage in to ward those troubles off — a ménage seems to be his choice with Eddie as partner.
Eddie is mostly there while we learn a great deal more about Matthias, Jim's "current" boss and a supposed sociopath.
More of Devina's activities come to light when she kidnaps Jim for her version of a night of sexual delight. The only positives Jim takes from it is an identification as well as his own realization about his limitations.
The Cover
Gorgeous cover…I love that spreadeagled stance as he looks to the side with the impression of wings tattooed to his bare back. I'm assuming the man depicted is meant to be Jim…in which case, where's Jim's Grim Reaper?? I know it's not Isaac as he has the same Grim Reaper tattooed over his back. Eddie is too big and Adrian has too many piercings…

JIm the semi angelic angel has another soul to save in this horrible game, between good and evil. I have a big problem with the constant reference to it being a game. It is a very sick game and Jim is willing to sell his body and soul not to lose his game pieces(souls). I was in sock at the sudden sexual torture scene in the story, no what it was but how it was described. I would have liked to use more of my imagination. All through the rest of the book I had that horrible vision of Jim on Devina's table, ick. It ruined the rest of the story for me. Jim is too sacrificing, yes that is possible.
I didn't enjoy this as much as the first, but after reading the back, I enjoyed it way more than I thought I would. It seemed forced at points, but overall was really enjoyable to read.
Romance and supernatural beings.....a great combination. I really enjoy this writer. This book was a very fast, easy read. I especially enjoyed some of the love scenes.
Better than the first one. makes me think i'll try the next. still not as good as her black dagger series!
