I loved this book! I’ve seen the movie, but I am so glad I read it too. The book delves into the story with such a rich, beautiful woven mix of characters, themes, timelines. You definitely need to keep in mind that it was published in the 80’s, for that time it explores some progressive topics like classism, racism, menopause, depression, gender, queerness and more. In todays standards it is a bit out of touch and says the n word in exorbitant amount of times. BUT i still loved it and can give it a grain of salt given the time and place it came from. Would definitely recommend!

This has been on my TBR for over 5 years and it took my niece recommending it to me last week to get me to actually read it. I wasn’t sure what to expect and I ended up absolutely loving it.
This book is one for the ages. Featuring a multigenerational friendship, a beautiful love story, a comprehensive backstory, and a murder mystery there’s a little bit of everything in there. While present day is 1986 it didn’t feel dated at all and I actually saw myself in one of the characters.
The writing style is a bit tricky in that the story isn’t told on a linear way. It tends to jump from one era to another in the backstory and the Newsletters that are at the beginning of nearly every chapter. That being said, the story is so engaging you’ll find yourself easily sucked into it from the get go.

Evelyn's rage is the most relatable. Also her fear of aging.
I tried to place myself at the time it was written but I guess I was just not in the mood to read about how racist people in the US were while masking it for folklore.
Idgie's common sense and bravery is just what everyone should have.

A sweet story, however it has more n-words than anyone would ever need to see in one place.

Very jumpy and a lot of characters/story lines to keep up with. I think if I had read it faster, I would have been able to follow it better. I love the characters and the silly drama of it all.
