It was good but didn't follow the actual story (tv show), which made it extremely odd to read.

I'm really tired of reboots. With this, in particular, I don't feel like I'm getting anything new from the story. Buffy will always be a teenager torn between normalcy and the occult. It's just part of the narrative and unless it's doing something new and innovative, I'd rather just rewatch the show. I can't say I'm thrilled about the reimagining of characters like Anya and Willow. Where is my geeky Willow who blossoms into a wicca badass? She's already kind of cool and hot? And she's queer off the bat which I guess is nice but does that mean no Oz? Anya is an adult? A businesswoman with beef against someone??? The art was great and captured the likeness of the main characters really well. However, the voices for Buffy and Willow seem off. Xander and Giles are pretty spot on but there's a loss of that quirky SoCal lingo that we so loved in the show. I just don't think this series is going to do anything new.

I love the art and how close it resembles the actual actors; I’m also really into how the Scooby Gang would act in the modern age and can’t wait to see what other characters will return and where it will diverge. A great start!

I want to preface this review by saying...

I have never watched the Buffy TV Show. I know, it's shameful.

However, I really loved this graphic novel and I am so excited for Volume Two! I need it!

Come for Jordie Bellaire's brilliant revamping (pun intended) of our beloved characters -- the reimaginings are fresh, and the thrill of seeing the Buffyverse in the present day (easter eggs and all) will tickle even the purists. Stay for Dan Mora's incredible renditions -- diehards will like what they see, and appreciate his attention to everyone's spirit and details. I've not found the other Buffy comics very satisfying when I've flipped through them, but this reboot is different. Volume 2 is out in 2020 and I can't wait to put a hold at my library.

It's no secret that I love Buffy like others love Star Wars and Star Trek. I have watched the series about a million times and have listened to so many of the podcasts (Buffering is my fave). I read the previous Buffy series and enjoyed it, but I felt like it had gone so far away from what I loved, I fell behind before falling out completely.

#1 feels like what I loved about Buffy, but with some of the glaring issues that did not age well not there. I cannot wait to get the next issue!

I’m a Buffy fan, but I came to the series VERY late (like a mere 5 years ago). I’m so glad I did! Then I can get excited about things like this. First of all, this art is gorgeous. And it’s a stark contrast to the darkness of the show. Secondly, the characters look just like the actors which is very comforting in a way. I hear their voices when I read which brings me to my last point, the dialogue is on point! I could easily just have been dropped into a new timeline or something of the show. I’m excited to have this series back and I can follow along (previously I would’ve had to do lots of catch up reading on the other comics). Can’t wait for issue 2!

Great start! I’m so excited to see where this goes! I also love the little nods to the original series! ❤️❤️
