Definitely a cool concept and I’m looking forward to reading more “eco-fiction” but it was a little too mellow-dramatic and soap opera-y for me to really enjoy it.

What a brilliant original story! I listened to this one and I couldn’t have listened to 1847272 more hours of it! I didn’t know I needed a fictional story about a small town with water issues that are messing with the community but I’m glad I did. The three sister/ protagonists each had their own voice and I adored this family so much. I’ll be thinking about this one for quite some time!!
This Is How It Always Is has a place on my all-time favorites shelf, so this was a highly anticipated read for me. Told in alternating viewpoints by three distinct, intelligent sisters/triplets, Mab (One), Monday (Two) and Mirabel (Three), this is a story of unlikely heroes in a small doomed town fighting for justice and redefining and expanding what is considered “normal”. I found the cast of characters utterly charming, especially the girls’ mother Nora, who I strongly identified with as a fellow enneagram one. This has serious Erin Brockovich vibes, and just like that story, I found myself having a visceral reaction to the evil corporate villain. At times, I was so frustrated and/or angry, I avoided picking this up to read, but I consider it a compliment to the writing that it made me feel so strongly. I found the pacing a bit inconsistent, but I still loved this one.

I had such high hopes for this book, as the premise was SO intriguing, but it really fell flat for me. I couldn't bring myself to care about the characters and I really did feel like it dragged on :(
